We were lucky to catch up with BodiedBy Shay’Aujanae recently and have shared our conversation below.

BodiedBy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?

I came up with the idea to start my custom wig business with the influences of the changes of my life and the desire to do something different and more creative for me . I’ve done hair behind the chair a long time state to state even but I was never really afforded the opportunity to express my creativity and the full potential of my skills. In May 2023 I became a mother and with that came the desire to change things up career wise ! I knew I didn’t want to spend long hours behind the chair , so I decided to start a custom wig making business from home that feeds the desire to be as creative as I want while still challenging myself to accomplish new goals and hit new milestones while also being at home with my daughter while she grows up .

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I am a custom wig maker and extension specialist. The main services I offer and frequently get booked for a wig making , wig installing , sew ins , and bond ins. I first fell in love with hair when I was a little girl , at 7 I was braiding hair and continued from there ! My new avenue after doing hair services for over 10+ years is wigs , I’m currently offering cosmetic wigs and will be offering medical and cosmetic wigs in 2024. I help clients that suffer from hairloss from various reasons feel confident and beautiful again , I restore confidence in all women who hair I touch. I’m most proud of my determination and passion for hair . I’m literally obsessed with my craft , It’s something I have always been into ! The main thing I want potential clients to know about me is that you are in good hands with me ! I’ve done the research obtained the knowledge , I have the experience and most importantly I care about you and your experience ! This isn’t a hobby for me it’s a lifestyle ! You are in good hands with me and I look forward to making you feel beautiful it’s the highlight of my day !

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?

A resource I wish I knew about earlier in my journey is the different ways to find your business like from grants ! I feel I would’ve been waaay further if I knew then what I do now !

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

The most rewarding aspect is being able to do what you love and earn money doing it . This is such an underrated statement !
