We were lucky to catch up with Bobby Miller Jr. recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bobby, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I’ve been a part of has been The Bird Comedy Theater. In the summer of 2021 at dinner, my brother Blake who is an entrepreneur asked me when I planned on going out and starting my own place. I had no intentions of such an undertaking but I told him that I did know of some friends who had entertained the idea. He told me to tell them to get a business plan together and he’d listen to their pitch. So I told them and about a week later we all met for the pitch. We started looking at buildings over the next few days. That turned into a couple of months and a venue or two did not work out until finally, our real estate agent said she had something a little different for us. That was the historic Hemingway building. It was the place for us. We got approved and we off to the races so to speak. Since then it’s been working 60-80 weeks trying to make this place an attraction.

Bobby, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well my name is Bobby Miller Jr. I’m a second generation entertainer with a focus on acting. I say entertainer because I’ve been djing on my own since I was 13. Before that, I was a “roadie” for my Dad, Bob Miller Sr., helping him set up equipment at different gigs like weddings, corporate, and holiday parties. All my life I had always wanted to give acting a real try so at 20 years old I got an acting coach and started taking improv classes. I was hooked to say the least and I feel like I’ve been doing improv, in some form, every weekend since!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, it’s making someone laugh. Making someone else laugh brings me such immense joy and a feeling that this is why I was put on this earth.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I’m a big follower of the creative musings of Rick Rubin. His book the creative act I feel sums up the plight of being a creative whilst also serving as a guide book for creatives seeking their best selves.
