We were lucky to catch up with Bobby Brown recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bobby , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Grew up in the Financial Services industry, first in banking, then in the Cotton Futures trading, then with name-brand Investment firms. Built an investment book of business that was based on sound advice, relationships, service, and hard work. I had positioned myself well with a reputable Investment Firm, and it looked as if I would be there for the rest of my career. Something was missing. The dream of owning my own investment firm started to occupy my thoughts. I wanted to bring a new approach to Investors that was in the form of a team approach, servicing their needs. A practice that worked in the high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth arena that uses financial planning as a key ingredient to create true generational wealth. Starting an Investment Firm from scratch would require capital, talent, and a long time. I remember specifically the weekend that we made the decision, we visited my wife’s grandmother and shared with her what we were thinking about. After hearing our dream from her wheelchair, she pumped her fist up and said, “Go for it!” We decided that weekend to do just that. Now 13 years later we wished we had done it much earlier.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
We are a full-service Investment Firm that addresses every aspect of our clients’ lives. We work in the high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth markets, helping them achieve their financial goals for reasons that are important to them. We use a value-based financial planning approach that is very disciplined. We are built on the concept of servicing our clients from a team approach, not just one Financial Advisor. It brings strength from over 160 years of cumulative experience in our field. Putting our client’s interest first is the only way we know how to practice our craft. We take being a Fiduciary very seriously. I am very proud of what we have achieved in a short 13-year period.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I think that in order to manage a team and maintain high morale, you have to first have team members who have great values. High integrity and morals are a requisite for our team. It’s not an option it is a requirement. It is a characteristic that I hope everyone sees when you visit our office. Second is you have to share your vision for the firm along the way. By bringing your team along on the journey, you help them achieve those goals. When your team agrees and makes it part of their dream too, everyone shares in the successes. It is a true team approach. The members of our firm are family, and so are our clients. Our friends have become our clients, and our clients have become our friends. It is a great atmosphere, and we treasure it.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Building a fee-for-service business is very different from a commission-based business. Growing up in this business, I saw first-hand brokers trying to call and make a sale on a product just so they could make a commission. Unfortunately, some in our business just try to sell something to make a boat payment. They usually don’t last long, and they are usually fleshed out of the business. We wanted to always do what is right for the client, even if it didn’t help us financially. We wanted to take care of our clients and slowly build an Investment Firm the right way has allowed us to grow and grow. I remember when we first started, we only had one car because my wife and I both came to work together, and we worked 7 days a week in the beginning, then slowly 6 days, then after a year, only half a day on Saturday. We sacrificed, were resilient, and slowly built a firm the right way for the right reasons.
