We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bobby Bagley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bobby below.
Hi Bobby, thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
In the beginning I approached art from a technical point of view. I worked on painting from the point of view of a craftsmen. I took the approach of a cabinet maker, meaning that I concentrated on the craft. Once I was happy with how I painted, then I allowed myself to be more passionate about the stories I was telling. Now I am lead by story, composition, and color.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Throughout my life my images have evolved into a collage of the South as a place of spiritual yearning. My images paint a persuasive picture of self realization like a fable passed down through many generations. I was born in Warner Robins, GA and later relocated to Arkansas with my family. This is when I entered my first art show as a child, discovering that art was going to be my career. I then attended the University of Central Arkansas, where I met two influential teachers that helped me become the artist I am today.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
In my opinion, to support artist you should buy art. Whether it’s a $35 print or if you have the ability to buy original art, then you should. Buy the art you love.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist for me is that my art is directly inspired by the unique people of the South. I am driven by the many images, ideals, and emotions that I encountered growing up in the South. More than just individual pieces connected by style and artist, these works represent stories related to each other by a reality of underlying depth, purpose, and personal experience. Each piece recreates human drama within the border of its canvas.
