Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Blu Erran. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Blu , thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I am happier as a creative, I feel like my mind is racing in 100 different directions and a majority of the thoughts are daydreams of things I want to create or pursue. I currently am not in a place to be a full time “creative” but that’s because I’m more intrigued by the business side to the arts world. I love being behind the scenes organizing and aligning projects. Coordinating environments for these artists to focus on their art, and I take care of the rest. In order though to do that full time, I have been doing freelance work and building my portfolio until I find an opportunity with either an incredible company or artist. I feel like I’m at the tipping point into being in the exact position I’ve been in search of so it’s a matter of days, weeks, or even months but I know it’s about to happen. Having to imagine working a regular job the rest of my life isn’t an option. I get tired of repetitiveness very quickly so I couldn’t imagine doing a 9-5 for the rest of my life.
Blu , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I originally was invited on voyage/canvasrebel in 2019 when I was organizing micro-events within my community, showcasing the incredible art that was not being elevated to its full potential. I was focusing at the time on art shows, and soon after begun expanding into larger shows full of artisans, traditional artists, and musicians from all backgrounds. I have since grown tremendously, focusing on being a better mediator between the general public and artists of all backgrounds. I am in a place where a top priority is protecting Arizona’s style/artists with the amount of gentrification sweeping in and trying to suffocate what we have been working on for years we have to continuously remind how embedded our roots are. I curate behind the scenes a lot more then I was in the past, being invited to help bring ideas come into fruition from clothing designs, event set ups, or just finding the correct people to execute another’s ideas. I feel like my greatest quality is the connections I’ve made through these years. The biggest thing I have to give thanks for from my experiences is the vast knowledge and diversity I’ve experienced from the people I’ve met and worked with. I continuously grow everyday from the conversations I’m able to hold and the projects I am invited to be a part of and accomplish.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is all the amazing people I’ve been able to meet. I’m constantly inspired by my friends and can easily say they’re all people I look up to. We’re all creating on our own paths, and getting to experience theirs and watch them accomplish things they work on for months gives me goosebumps; like wow these people are some of the coolest ever and I get to call them my friends!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to be in a space where I am living comfortably and working on projects and other ventures full time and get to just focus on that. I also want to be able to create an avenue to also elevate other creatives and help bring them to a point where they also can focus on their passions full time.
