We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Blooming Indigo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Blooming below.
Indigo, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you get your first job in the field that you practice in today?
I got my first official sound healing gig after being discovered while I was playing at a brunch at a local bar. Drew Johnson, a sound healer and the owner of House of Yodi (a local holistic wellness business) offered me a spot at the Divine Healing Market she curated.
That would be the first time I had people sit down in front of me to be led through a meditation session as I played for them. I was ELATED and I couldn’t wait to put my gifts “to the test”. I closed my eyes and as everyone laid before me, I spoke to them just as if I were speaking to myself and led them into a deep meditative state. The rest was history after that. Drew would go on to recommend me to businesses for events and to grab gigs she’d be unavailable for and it was THAT trust and vision she had for me that got me the exposure I needed. She will always play a monumental role in my journey!
When I started playing the singing bowls, I played for my own healing. I was studying the chakra system and how vibrations and frequencies work, for my own healing. I never thought that this would be something I was doing to help others. Fast forward to now, I have been in schools, hospitals, home births, veterinary hospitals, features in local shops and festivals offering healing vibrations with sound therapy. My greatest hope is to continue to reach the people that are in need of this type of healing, and to educate those that are interested.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I was born into the military and I was the only child. I moved every two years of my life until I went to college. In 2015, I graduated from Valdosta State University. I studied Sociology with a minor in African American studies. It was then (2015) that my spiritual journey began. I was introduced to reiki and womb healing as I had personal ailments come up with my womb. The studying and changes I was making called for a complete lifestyle change and that is when I became “holistic” in my way of living.
In 2021 I gave birth to my first child, Enki Lais Ikemba. He passed away shortly after he was born and it was completely unforeseen. I experienced a heartbreak that I would never wish on anyone else. But it was the grief from my son’s passing that birthed my passion for doula work and sound healing. I purchased my first singing bowl, the heart chakra singing bowl, to help me transmute the heavy energy I was carrying daily. From using that bowl I became curious about using crystal singing bowls for other chakras and that’s when I really got serious about studying chakra healing.
I’ve now combined all the healing modalities I’ve learned along the way to heal myself, to help heal others. I offer healing sessions that include a sound bath, chakra clearing and an aura cleanse. I offer private sessions and group sessions, in-studio and out of studio. I am currently doing an “Enchanting Park Series” where I am offering sessions in nature at local parks! Aside from appearances for sound healing, I am a Full Spectrum Doula and I offer an array of services like hosting sacred ceremonies such as Mothers Blessings and Closing of the Bones, I offer placenta encapsulation, fertility support, sound healing at births for pain management and so much more. I also make body products and an amazing aura cleansing mist. You can find further descriptions and details on everything I offer on my website at www.egowellness.life
I help people transmute unwanted energy. I host a safe space for people to feel seen, heard and valued. I take pride in being included in one’s healing journey and/or spiritual maintenance.
I truly feel chosen. I am just being obedient with my gifts and sharing with the world everything that I have learned to hopefully help someone else on their journey.
I want any future clients of mine to know that I am here when they are ready. Healing takes work and breaking through barriers. I am here to hold a safe space for each client and guide them through that journey when and where I am needed. My healing sessions are definitely something clients have to be ready for, they have to be ready to make the changes and to be vulnerable. I am here when YOU are ready and when you’re ready, you’ll know.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Making connections! It’s amazing how many times I’ve proposed my services or have been booked and they’ve told me they’ve heard of me through someone else. Making connections is important and they definitely grow your network. That is the prime reason making lasting impressions is also helpful in succeeding in this field and something that I pride myself on.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Oh absolutely. When I think of pivot I think of complete change and change can be healthy, so I give myself grace when I do come to a time when I need to pivot. Prime example, when my son’s father and I split up I pretty much went through an identity crisis on top of having postpartum depression. I mourned my son, my relationship and the woman I THOUGHT I was going to become (a happy wife and a mommy with a living beautiful bouncing baby boy). I literally had to understand who I was again, get out of the mold I was trying so desperately to fit in and just learn to love myself for me as I walk my journey. I say all of this to say, there is no way I could have genuinely supported another woman’s birth journey as I was going through a period of what felt like so much loss. This is a time when things pivoted for me. I was able to be honest with myself, my clients and supporters, and made the announcement that I will not be offering birth support while I was in therapy and until I was ready to do so again. Doula work is very intentional and sacred to me so I like to operate from a honest space. I still offer ceremonies, placenta encapsulation and sound healing for mamas, my birth/postpartum support just looks a little different until further notice.
And you know what, I received so much love and support after making that announcement. People appreciate transparency and honesty and I truly needed the love from community at that time. So when things pivot, they change and change offers us another opportunity to grow.
