We recently connected with BLNK Studios and have shared our conversation below.
Hi BLNK, thanks for joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
I (Cece) was sitting on the computer making an initial website design without a company name. I decided to use BLANK and a filler name/logo. When I turned around, Seth & Nick thought I was some genius with the BLANK idea but suggested we drop the A. So, we went with BLNK.
The name is simple, but it has a deeper meaning. We were very inspired by the idea that a studio is a “Blank canvas,” and the photographer has the power to create something unique.

BLNK, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Our names are Seth, Nick, and Cece, and we are BLNK Studios. We got started in late 2018 with a few bucks and a dream of creating an environment where photographers could come together to create beautiful work without having to spend thousands on lighting equipment and other resources that they might not be able to afford on their own.
We are here to provide you with all the tools you need—at an affordable price—so that you can focus on what matters most: creating beautiful images! Our primary day-to-day business is an Hourly Rental Photography Studio. Our streamlined system allows our clients to book and manage their rentals directly on our website. We have a bunch of different colors of Savage Seamless Paper Rolls, lights, and props throughout the space to use.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
We read Steal Like an Artist by Austin Kleon in Photography School, and it’s been a huge influence on how we manage our business.
It’s not so much that the book itself adjusted the way we manage our business, but it really shifted the way we look at art and creative work.
The author talks about how artists steal from each other all the time—that creative people are always looking for inspiration from others’ work and then creating their own interpretation of it.
It’s a book about being creative with your life and business, but not being afraid to borrow from others to make something new!

We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
We all met in photography school and happen to have a studio portraiture class together. We spent so much time in the studios at school, and we became frustrated by the restrictions on hours. It seemed like such a waste to have this amazing space where you could do whatever you wanted — except no one was allowed to use it after like 5 pm! So we decided that if we ever wanted to make art on our own time, we would need our own space to use whenever we wanted.
Less than a week later, we were signing a lease for what would become BLNK Studios.
