We recently connected with Bleu Friday and have shared our conversation below.
Bleu, appreciate you joining us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I’m not entirely sure what I want to be remembered for specifically. I just know I do want to be remembered. I think we all want to be remembered. I would hope it’s for the good that I am and the good that I’ve done. I hope whatever it is that people remember of me, it is something that can impress on those whom are alive something that is good for their soul, even as my soul finds home in the heaven realm. Perhaps, I would want to be remembered for trying my absolute best to orient myself towards the will of God. I would want the people that still call earth their home to remember the works that I’ve left them with. I would want them to remember I persevered and that I lived out my purpose fully and rejected any influence that would totally take me off that purpose. I would most want them to remember their creator. For God has formed us and gave us memory, thus his will is within us. So remember him, for the clarion call of death comes for all and in its bosom you will be back with that of which created you, so remember your creator as you live.
Bleu, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a writer and visual artist. I began in early childhood writing poetry and doing sketch art, that has since evolved into writing screenplays, books, producing films and developing content. I firmly believe that the core of who I am and what I do is a marriage between being oriented towards and at home within the will of God and the ability to write well. I’ve observed that there is an interplay between ideation and writing that forms the foundation to pretty much everything I do. I say it in this order of God and the ability to write because as far as ideation, I truly believe, as Einstein has famously said “Ideas come from God.” This is integral because without an idea I have nothing to write about and without the ability to write well I have nothing to develop or produce. It is not my intention to come off as very abstract, spiritual or religious this is just the truth I’ve observed of my own life.
I think what sets me a part from others is my knowledge of truth concerning mans relation to the world and his role in it. I wont go into much detail about that because that would take hours, but I’ve written at length concerning these matters and I’m pretty sure it’ll be available in book form some day. I know this may appear at the surface as a very vague response so I will condense it to make sense to the general public. I think what sets me a part is that I know my purpose, I have a clear mission and I have a vision.
As far as what I’m most proud of, I don’t know really. Pride rarely arises within me thus I don’t truly feel it, I think pride robs you of seeing the whole picture. If I we’re to say I am most proud of my film Laodicea, what then do I think of Rose? Is it not just as good towards the greater whole that is the arc of my life? Pride feels to me like comparison of ones self against ones own creations and I think the day I start feeling proud will be the day I start to wane from this fountain of limitless imagination and potential that God has developed within my soul.
I can say though, that I am grateful for all the phenomenal writers and thinkers that have come before me, for they have laid foundation for people like me. I am grateful for the biblical prophets of old, for they have laid foundation for people like me. I am grateful for the experiences, the trials and suffering that my people have went through for they sacrificed their blood that has since been swallowed by the earth, they too, have laid foundation for people like me.
I don’t know what I truly want people to know about me, but I will leave people with this. You are but a microcosm of thoughts, flesh, and bone that is here for a brief lapse of time. In the grand scheme of things we are so infinitely insignificant that all that matters is how well you lived and how best you tried. Do not get too caught up in the everyday evils of people, do not take seriously gossip nor participate in a gossip, do not be riled too emotions by every human interaction, do not let the state of the world paralyze you, for this has been going on in cycles throughout every period of human existence, it is the human condition. Observe it, live as best you can, do what’s right, but do not become ensnared by the world, whether this is on the social plane, the mental plane or the physical plane.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” – Romans 12:2 (NIV)
‘My Story’ is a new series I created that offers people a front row seat into the human condition. It is a series chronicling the experiences of people around the world. It is my belief that their is power in real stories from real people to inspire change, transform and console.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the greatest lessons I had to unlearn is that hard work (and by hard work I mean laborious work) is how you become successful. I grew up with a father who was a blue collar hard working man and that’s all he knew and that was the only advice he knew to give me was to work hard laborious jobs and do it for as many hours as you can so that you get overtime etc. I believe he was well intentioned but this lesson was something I had to quickly unlearn because it capped me, it was very limiting.
I found personally for my life that I have much more success (and by success I not only mean monetary but peace of mind and fulfillment as well) using my mind and focusing on my gifts.
In fact when I was “working hard” and working a lot of hours, as a dishwasher, grocery clerk, warehouse stocker etc. I was making the least amount of money I had ever made in my life, I was depressed, I didn’t feel fulfilled and I dreaded life.
It dawned on me that the only true luxury we have in life is time and it is wasn’t wise for me to squander my time doing things that didn’t fulfill me or align with my purpose for bare minimum wages.
Here is a quote from Sam Altman, Founder of Open AI
“Focus is a force multiplier on work.
Almost everyone I’ve ever met would be well-served by spending more time thinking about what to focus on. It is much more important to work on the right thing than it is to work many hours. Most people waste most of their time on stuff that doesn’t matter.
Once you have figured out what to do, be unstoppable about getting your small handful of priorities accomplished quickly. I have yet to meet a slow-moving person who is very successful.”

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
A major pivot for me was turning my focus from writing music and music production to writing films/stories and film production. Though all of it is creative production, one is just audio and the other is visual. Though when I think about it, music, audio, dialogue etc. makes up a film and most other visuals, so I never really stopped working in music production or audio really.
