We were lucky to catch up with Blane Charles recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Blane, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

As a peace activist, I am committed to the dignity and respect of all humans! This commitment has inspired the realization of BCD (Blane Charles Design) where we get to celebrate each and every client as we help to enhance their quality of living through customized management of wardrobe, interiors, health, and beauty. Our motto is “Why just wear a diamond when you can be one!”

I helped Barbara Sussman go from being a frumpy struggling artist to now being a sexy wife and mother commissioned by CARTIER to design their in house holiday stationery for their top clients.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

I launched my business right before 9/11 and went from dressing my clients for celebrations to dressing them for funerals and that was tough. But, by my Buddhist practice of chanting Nammyohorengekyo I kept a high life condition and my bright light got us through! Fast forward to Covid and I had to get tech savvy real quick. I taught myself how to navigate working with my clients via Zoom. This turned out to be a big breakthrough not having to travel to work with my clients. I am 100% committed to the fulfillment of my mission and the ongoing rich and rewarding relationships I have built with my clients is evident of this fact!

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

One big lesson that I had learn that kept me stuck, so much that I had to take on another job, was the power of delegation. As a perfectionist, I know exactly how I want things done. And so I to unlearn and let go! Fortunately, I am also a great Mentor and I adore working with Youth. Because of this, I have been growing a fantastic team and what a difference it makes. Most of work comes from referrals. So keeping in touch with my clients is numéro uno! And with my team, we find creative ways including our social media platforms to keep everyone engaged.
