We recently connected with Blanca Lucia Bergman and have shared our conversation below.
Blanca Lucia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
There are two things we do differently. My husband and co-vocalist, Jess, and I frequently collaborate with local visual artists for event planning, marketing, song covers, and mutual inspiration. The other thing we do differently is invest considerable time in marketing music releases and shows by our friends from various music genres across our music and business social pages. Poised In The Darkness cares about honoring and promoting San Diego’s music community as a whole.

Blanca Lucia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My dad, Juan Rojas, was an emcee, music artist promoter, singer/songwriter, and radio dj for many years before he transitioned to entrepreneurship and preaching internationally with permission by the Catholic church. He influenced my musical, professional, and spiritual journey more than anyone.
I am grateful for my family’s profound support and the rich experiences I have had – among them, international touring, interdisciplinary art event hosting, corporate careers, and business education – that facilitate my responsibilities within Poised In The Darkness and my businesses, Art Unites and Cycad Gallery.
When I reflect on my various commitments, I feel proud of leading with purpose and work/life balance. Everything I do, and everything I offer, from Poised In The Darkness songs to original artworks by San Diego artists, reflects my purpose and core values.

We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
My cofounder and co-vocalist in Poised In The Darkness is my husband, Jess Bergman. We met in 2015 at a beloved San Diego coffee shop, Lestat’s, and married the following year. We spend every possible moment together and enjoy creating music, supporting our local arts scene, and exchanging music and business ideas, among other things.
My cofounders in Cycad Gallery are Julio Martha (founder, San Diego Art Society – a prolific arts group and member of the Envision Broadway leadership team) and Chris Vasey (founder, Runninfish – a premier marketing agency). I met Chris through Julio, and I met Julio through Instagram. Our mutual marketing support led to a close friendship and business partnership.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been to partner with artists, community leaders, and businesses that a) share my core values and b) have large networks (over 1,000 followers) for referrals and cross promotion. Applying this strategy has resulted in rapid growth and rewarding experiences.
