We recently connected with Blake Zawadzki and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Blake thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I am currently working on issue 1 of a comic that I created titled ‘Felandra: Heroine of Darkness’. With the comic, I am very grateful and blessed to be working with the talented artists: Eli Ramos and the legendary Keith Williams, who are helping to bring this world to life on the page. It is based on a multiple award winning IP where other avenues are also being explored including an animated series that is currently in development. I appreciate the continued love and support from many people across the film, animation, and comic industries with this project. ‘Felandra: Heroine of Darkness’ is about a young woman, named Adriana Woods, who is a journeyman mechanic by day and by night is the vigilante, Felandra, Heroine of Darkness. With the help of her friends and extended family, Adriana must deal with the loss of her mother as well as the rise of crime in a cyberpunk future set 70 years. It’s an ensemble cast. There are many themes including magic, technology, sisterhood, and extended family. It has a 1990s art style. We are slowing revealing more details and characters. At the 11th annual Urban Action Showcase in NYC, we unveiled four of the characters: Adriana Woods/Felandra, Kol (a mystical two tailed cat), Straight Arrow (Adriana’s sensei and one of her father figures), and the villainess Screw Flye (a rough red head with cybernectic enhancements). We are very thankful for the positive festivals’ and fans’ reactions thus far. We are barely scraping the surface. I look forward to the future.

Blake, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Aside from comic issue 1, ‘Felandra: Heroine of Darkness’ first garnered attention at the film festival and screenplay competition circuit. The two part animated series pilot screenplay has received multiple accolades across the country including at the Burbank International Film Festival, Los Angeles Animation Festival, Urban Action Showcase in NYC, Vail Film Festival, Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival, Brightside Film Festival, Grove Film Festival, and Big Apple Film Festival. With this IP, there is a lot of material developed to pull from. Again, it is an honor to be working on comic issue 1 with artists Eli Ramos and Keith Williams. The target audience is male and female teens to young adults. Secondary audience is 30s and 40s. Also, I am very grateful for the strong positive reaction with women across the board with this IP.
As an award winning filmmaker, I’ve been also blessed to have worked with many talented actors, actresses, and crew over the years. A short dark comedy film that I wrote and directed, titled ‘Necrosis Incorporated: Requiem’, is currently having a short festival run. Recently, it was a recipient of the award “Runner-Up: Best Local Film” at the 2024 Brightside Film Festival in New Jersey. The film stars an ensemble of talented actors and actresses including: Dan Gregory, Eric Parkin, Thomas Gipson, Ariana Galya, Alan Kendall, Aaron Visco, and Dayveonne Bussey.
Thank you everyone across the board for your continued support!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I have multiple aspects that I find rewarding. I enjoy seeing people’s reactions to the projects and characters that I have created and worked on. What they like and what they don’t like. What they resonate with in the creative work and worlds. I just like to tell interesting stories with heart and hopefully grow people’s imagination and interest.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I like to inspire others with my work as well as enjoy watching them succeed and grow in their endeavors and work. I appreciate people’s continued love and support. In my opinion, if you don’t appreciate fans and fellow professionals, you have nothing. Be supportive of your peers, fellow professionals, and fans. I know a lot of people who are very creative and are doing awesome things. It’s always a pleasure.
