Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Blake Williams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Blake, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?
My most memorable fix was an oil stained Jordan 1 suede toe (Jordan 1 prototype). I tried to pull the oil, different cleaning methods and nothing worked. So I had to dye the suede and they came out great! Needless to say the customer was extremely satisfied. Moments like that are priceless.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Blake and I am the Biscuit Beamer! As a kid growing up in Detroit we would jokingly call shoes/boots that were heavily worn biscuits. As an adult I took on the challenge of beaming those biscuits, restoring them to their former glory days. My whole reason for getting into this industry was never planned. I had a pair of shoes I wanted restored and the quote I got was kind of steep I felt. So I ordered some products and started doing the work myself. Funny part is, I never finished that particular pair of Jordan’s but I’ve serviced many others. Biscuit Beamers offers restoration, cleaning and color changing custom work for all types of footwear at a very affordable price might I add! We order accessories as well as “ice” shoes which is also known as deoxidation. We deoxidize clear, ice blue and gum bottom outsoles along with rubber outsoles. Some restorers won’t service ice blue bottoms because it’s a long and repetitive process but I like to see the results and don’t mind the time spent. If you have a footwear problem, I can fix it 90% of the time. Realistically, some shoes (that 10%) have served their purpose and should be left unbothered. I’ve tried twice on that 10% only because I like a challenge and both times I’ve come to realize that there was no hope. I receive my most joy from my customers whose facial expressions and smiles make it worth it. The excitement they have for the finished work just moves me time and time again. If you’re new to me, I only want you to know that I am the Biscuit Beamer!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I would say good old word of mouth. I get a lot of new customers from “so and so told me about you”
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Creating content regularly. When social media sees and shares the results/ before and after photos or videos it’s understood that I’ll do a great job even if you hadn’t personally brought me footwear to be serviced.
