Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Blake Miller. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Blake thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Obviously having a conventional job would be much easier and less stressful than being full time musicians but we couldn’t change it if we wanted to. Playing music is in the depths of our hearts. Writing, recording, performing, traveling is who we are and we’ve considered what life would be like taking a more traditional route but could never. The most rewarding thing in the world is the love we feel from everyone we put our music in front of. It’s an expression of the deepest parts of who we are and to share that with the world is the best thing that exists.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We’ve been a band for around 3 years and noticed real growth about a year ago. Until about 4 months ago we were completely self produced & managed. But as the project goes further we’re lucky enough to be able to bring on so many talented producers, engineers, photographers, videographers, artists, designers, promoters and so many more. In the last year we’ve played with Hinder, Galactic Empire, Nita Strauss, a partial tour with Hed PE, to name a few and have been in front of the biggest audience this project has seen to date. We’ll be going back out in the road at the end of May with so many more tours planned. And we’re currently working on our first full length concept album with a cinematic storyline coming at the end of this year.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Be genuine, be exciting, share what is special to you. We’re told we need to post every day, a few times a day. As much as possible. But in our experience, what people relate with the most is what we care about. Make sure you’re present but don’t stretch yourself too thin worrying about how often you’re posting. Interact with every single person you can and post/ talk about what’s special to you. Your inspirations, upcoming events/ releases, why you do what you do and how others are enjoying it. We built and are building our audience being genuine and only sharing what feels like us.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Online marketing and organic growth has been a great one but the best way we get new fans is playing. There’s no better connection to music than seeing it live and feeling the energy in the room. Albums are great and music videos are so much fun. But music is meant to be experienced live. And we connect with people the very best when we’re right in front of them.
