We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Blair Dreams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Blair, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I have always listened and music a lot as a child and was curious as to how to put together everything into one artist or character for some people. So as I grew older I began to record songs that I wrote with just a computer and microphone with my friend Terrance York. We were getting better but the equipment wasn’t so by freshmen year I went to a couple studios and made songs, I also rapped at school often and performed once there and at church. I could have learned faster if I took it serious sooner. So I knew I was capable of making good music it was the rest of what comes with it that would surprise me or catch me off guard. If I would have started earlier I would have been through all the stages that me and so many other people I knew as artist were going through like the finding your style of music or stage fright or even networking to grow your fan base at a younger age. Youth equals fans and ticket sales in the music industry. My creativeness is probably my main skill lyrically and artistically with directing my music videos to helping design music cover art or my clothes. Then there the business part I’m good at understanding that aspect of things and therefore I’m able to do a lot of things behind the scenes on my own even creating and keeping relationships with bigger artists or at least working with them. I’m not naturally popular but I know a lot of people from different walks of life. For me it was more of a money and time thing, having enough of both. Also, learning the backend of the music industry independently is kind of a headache but you live and you learn overall it’s helped me grow in so many ways.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am Blair Dreams a father of four and an artist. I began making music after I finished my getting my emergency medical technician license in collage because I had a little more time and money. My music is on all platforms from Apple Music to Spotify and YouTube. I do live shows at pop’s nightclub in East Saint Louis. I’m on Facebook and Instagram @blairdreams feel free to em me about anything or for business opportunities. I am proud of how quickly I accomplished the things I have done like shooting two videos in Hawaii and working with nikee turbo and rahli on several songs and even purchasing a Zaytoven beat. I have yet to release that song by the way. This should show people that you can get a lot done independently and have fun while doing it.
