Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Black & White Motion Picture. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Black & White, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
Absolutely. As a band without a commercial equivalent, we often find ourselves with the difficult task of defining our sound. Since we arent a clone of an existing band we usually just say “rock” or “indie”. And look, if we cant define ourselves, how in the world will can an outside third party? There have been more than a few articles written about us mislabeling or mischaracterizing us or our music… what can you do? You dont want to be “that guy” and correct everyone all the time, no sense in burning calories pursuing accuracy

Black & White, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We are Black & White Motion Picture, the world’s okayest rock band. Black & White Motion Picture has been part of the Denver music scene since 2018, playing shows and melting many faces along the way. BandWag described us thusly: “There is a tradition in Colorado’s music scene of capturing the mystery and vastness of the West. Call it gothic folk or dramatic rock, trails of reverb on whammed-out electric guitar, rolling snare and impassioned, yearning vocals are touchstones of one of the state’s staple sounds”
We are currently writing a new album that we are hoping to have ready for release in 2024

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
The importance of social media. Its lame and dumb and making us all dumber but having a digital flag staked someplace really means something in today’s media landscape. Having a larger online presence earlier on would have been helpful
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Reaching an audience. The internet is completely saturated with music, in a way that makes your creation just spit in the ocean. Its been devalued to a point where it really is exciting to gradually find an audience. We have some international fans and it really is rewarding to think that this song you’ve written and practiced and recorded found its way into the ear of someone living on the other side of the globe
