Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Black The Scientist. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Black , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I actually started music by accident, believe it or not! It was during a college class where we had to make a song. I started singing on it, then I started rapping a verse, and people really loved the piece. I think that’s what inspired me to work on my craft and develop myself, my music innovation, and my artistry.
Personally, I don’t feel like there could have been a “speed-up”–things happen as they are. There are reasons why my music career has mapped out the way it has, and it’s through time. Timing is everything, and it’s not on your time, but God’s.
I would say skill sets that are important are not really “skills,” but just being you, but to be the most confident you. You have to believe in the art you put out, regardless of what others may think. Be as creative as you want and trust your vision. I think that’s honestly the “obstacle” of the journey–following your own vision.

Black , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I always love sharing my story! I originally began thinking about music, as I said prior, after a college class! Can you believe that? One class changed my perspective on music; it wasn’t just something to listen to, but it’s a language, a motor of conversation, the way you, yourself, see and draw the world on your canvas.
I have the best of both worlds, I create music as a songwriter and vocalist, but I also work in digital marketing, so I work on my own projects and my clients on their social media platforms and how to best tell their stories through digital marketing.
I think this is what sets me apart–I’m a go-getter. I take in opportunities. I have various hustles. I am the person in front of the camera and a powerhouse behind it, and that is what also makes me proud. I have worked extremely hard to be as accomplished as I am so young, and I will continue to soar as life speeds ahead.
My biggest takeaway from people reading my story is this: go after it. Whatever it is. Believe in you, your vision, and go after it, and don’t stop. Finish the race for you, nobody else, but you.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I think my particular goal is to demonstrate that you can have a degree, be beautiful, smart, and black, and also be a jack of all trades. Why not rap? Why not songwriter? Why not also start your own business? I don’t believe in the words “I can’t do it,” because that’s a mentality hustlers can’t have. I want people to realize that you can be whatever it is you want, but you are in charge of who you become through your work, dedication, and innovation. Don’t stop until you finish the race, but make sure you choose to start the race for yourself.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of people an artist is inspiring people and touching people’s lives. I may not be the Weeknd or SZA, but it makes me so humbled for people to love my music, support my craft, and cheer me on. “Don’t give up,” “your music inspired me to make my own,” “I’m so excited for your next project,” hearing people say things like this warms me up inside and makes me feel like the tired nights, the constant traveling, the fighting to stay awake by drinking loads of coffee–all that to be worth it. I am grateful that I was given such a talent, but I’m grateful for the people behind the machine as well as the people who support the machine. Thank you.
