We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Blacc Market a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Blacc, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I wish I wasn’t so distracted with unnecessary things that would hinder my process and progress. Life had to happen in order for me to get tot his point I’m at now, but I always wonder how far things could be for me now if I had taken it more serious previously. But better late than never. Sometimes I was stuck in my own head and didn’t think it was going to connect. Eventually, I got into my “fuck-what-yall-think” attitude and the art has been more organic and authentic.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started writing music at age 6 which led me to recording music with high school friends at 15. I attended a music school in 2011 to learn how to produce. As i continued my music ventures, I began networking with people around my city which ultimately led me to TRAKHAUZ, started by Mr. Pia Classics in the 2010s. I joined the collective in 2021 and started producing for people in and out of the collective. With two releases under my belt (VIRUS with Mr. Pia in March 2022 and DORA with Rummie Abiff in December 2022), 2023 will be nothing short of the same energy. I will be releasing my first solo project, Bad Karma…But The Sun Still Rises in July, following two follow-up collaborations aimed for fall and winter (ETHER with Mr. Pia and Red Moon, Blacc Lagoon with Rummie Abiff), I assure whoever reads this will become a fan. TRAKHAUZ as a brand specializes in music. videos, clothing/apparel, merchandise, vinyl, and web design.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
For one, giving those artists the same platform they would give an artist with a machine behind them. Second, stop being biased and just focus on the music. This internet shit is corny and doesn’t correlate to longevity.
Last, teaching the youth about the business of music and entertainment. How to generate revenue and what to look out for, plus ownership.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Of course. The main one is to quit these 9 to 5s because they suck and so I can move out my mom’s house for good. On a serious note, my driving force though is to represent the ones overlooked. I’m basically putting a mirror in society’s face with my music. If you think my music is offensive, outrageous, unforgiving, how you think a nigga like me got to that point? Living in an unforgiving, outrageous, offensive word. I’m just playing the world’s game to my advantage. Taking my pain and turning it to profit. Taking my weaknesses/shortcomings and using them to my advantage. Like HAHAHA two can play this game
