Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bjorn Englen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Bjorn, thanks for joining us today. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
People often, because of my look/image and what I’m most known for, that I only play or master rock/metal. Far from the truth, and people rarely ask or approach me for work within other genres anymore. Don’t judge the book by its cover!

Bjorn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I became a musician because I pictured myself playing on big stages and touring the world. What sets me apart is not only being a virtuoso on bass but also my versatility as a player. In the 90s I used to take gigs playing ALL sorts of styles and genres just to pay my bills and I’m very grateful for that now. I’m proud to have played on over 60 albums and 2000 live shows worldwide with some of my childhood heroes including Yngwie Malmsteen, Billboard #1 Quiet Riot, Scorpions’ guitarist Uli Jon Roth and many more. I’m the most proud of my own band Soul Sign which consists of my favorite musicians, and dear friends.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
No. Playing live and in a band is key.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Buy their products. Don’t stream music for free if you really like the artist.
