Bizzy , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
In my senior year of high school, I remember we had colleges visit our school and one of the colleges that stood out to me was the Art Institute of Atlanta. At the time, I didn’t consider actually applying to the school because I was also speaking to military recruiters and was becoming more interested in the thought of making money right away than jumping right back into school. A month after graduation I made the decision to apply to the Art Institute and once I was accepted that was the start of my inspiration to pursue music professionally.
Bizzy , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a recording artist, self-published author, podcaster, and more, I’ve been recording music on a professional level since I was 18 years old and writing poetry since childhood. In 2018 I created the “Get To Know Me Podcast” where I rant and rave about random topics as well as artist interviews. My products and services range from music, my clothing brand “Big Luvv LLC”, and my journal books. I take pride in being an authentic artist that controls my art and able to present it to the world how I choose. The main things I want my supporters to know about me is that I love their feedback on my art, I want to hear the stories and learn how I can be a better inspiration to them. People have asked me what made me start following my dreams and taking risks on myself and my honest response is I don’t question my passion. Once I feel a pull towards something I go for it and it’s often easier said than done but I’m always open for a good challenge.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is controlling the entire process from start to finish. When I’m working on an album I start with the mood of the project and I think of the colors I see when I hear the music. I use those colors as the theme for the album so if I see the color blue when I hear a track then that’s the color I will use for the graphic art and any other visual presentation for the project. After creating it being able to perform it and see the live reactions of others is one of the best parts of the process.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Non-creatives would struggle to understand the risks that are sometimes necessary to accomplish their goals because often they’re not logical. When I moved to California in 2014, I didn’t know anyone, so I couch-surfed, slept in my car, and lived with coworkers on and off until I could get on my feet. Most people wouldn’t willingly live like that unless you’re a creative who shares a burning passion that can’t be put out. Creatives may be risk-takers, but we can also be logical people. We understand that sometimes it takes sacrifice to get what you want.
