Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bita Motiie. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Bita, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I work for a social media platform, we are a start up company and have created a place for adults only. This year I convinced my boss, our CEO, to allow me to host our first ever Creator Convention here in Dallas, Texas. There was a lot of push back but I convinced him that we should take this chance and host something special. I spent the next 6 months on top of my regular tasks planning my first convention. Keep in mind I had never done such a thing, our platform was turning 3 years old and most of our users/creators are from all over the world.
While I was planning this event, I kept asking myself will people show up? will people purchase tickets? The constant negative self talk was hard to ignore, but I lead my team in accomplishing this task. We found a venue, food trucks, special speakers and sponsors. But the #1 focus was if people would show up.
6 Months passed and the day of the event came, my boss is asking me the number of tickets sold, I was nervous to share the the amount because it wasn’t has much as I had hoped. technically half that we had projected for. BUT it all was worth it because the creators that did show up had an amazing time. 2 full days of exciting experiences and memories, we saw an increase in content made regarding the event, many creators that didn’t come felt fomo and 95% of the ticket holders were out of state, which meant people were willing to travel to engage with our brand.
Sometimes when taking a risk especially in your career, the rewards don’t have to be delivered in the ways you originally had hoped for to count as a success,
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Bita Motiie, I am Head of Operations for a social media platform called Clapper, I help bring content creators, build their communities, monetize and turn into full time jobs through our platform.
I joined this industry in college while I was completing my undergrad, I was working in social media and was inviting to be a TikTok Brand Ambassador. From their and developed content, built relationships and strategies on how brands can connect with their communities, virtually and in person.
Before I graduated I was invited to work on a new social media start up called Clapper, this allowed me to learn the inside of building and starting an app targeting adult creators.
The one thing I love most is developing strategies for people that want to get into content creation, Helping them find their passions and how to deliver that so they can grow their communities then monetize. Content creation is a full time job, you have to strategize, create and share your life to build a trusting brand. Knowing how hard it is, I work to make it as easy as possible. My goal is to help adults that feel like they are left behind join in on all the fun. You don’t have to be Gen Z to get into social media, you are interesting and people want to connect with you.
With my job, I get to help people be their most authentic self through social.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Within my past 3 years working at Clapper I’ve had the great opportunity in creating the foundation for our organizations operations. During this time we’ve experienced low and high morale and the best way to keep things high is to treat people with respect and honestly.
I focus on being compassionate and understanding over my employees needs and what they care about. Making sure to acknowledge their life outside of work and understand their goals helps me make sure I can keep encouraging them to perform at their best.
Doing little things like celebrating birthdays, grabbing their favorite snacks or even listening when they have a bad day goes a long way. I also am transparent with my goals, letting my team know what my expectations are and how they can achieve them allows them know where they need to go without the need of micromanaging.
Having an open door policy and creating check-ins to keep the hype so no one feels like they are undervalued.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Before you begin to post on your socials understand what it is you want people to get out of following you and your content. Are you teaching something, trying to sell something or promote your brand. Understanding your brand and goals are very important before the first post. Make sure you also utilize every aspect of building a strong profile.
Once you have a better understanding your brand and how you want to be perceived through your social, its all about your content schedule, and being consistent with it, event when the numbers don’t grow as fast as you’d like.
Make sure you have a variety of content, from static post to reels and stories. Engage with your brand and make things relatable or interesting to your target audience.
Finding ways to jump into trends and making it your own will help you ride waves and gain more followers.
But overall be consistent.
