We were lucky to catch up with Bisi Alabi recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bisi, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you wish you had started sooner?
While I wish I had started blogging earlier, reflecting back, I know that if I had begun blogging before 2020, it would not have been the right timing. I would not have been as dedicated as I am right now. Although I may have missed the opportunity to build a larger community earlier on, I appreciate that I had the timing that allowed me to try other things and finalize that blogging is the path for me.
Also, with my experience in blogging, I know that building a community is an ongoing process, so as long as I stay consistent and keep perfecting my art, I can still build a large, engaging community.
Bisi, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Bisi, the creative mind behind Life with Bisi Blog, where I share my motherhood and fashion journeys to inspire other women to live authentically themselves. When I was a stay-at-home mom of two, blogging was a fun thing I did on the side. But it has become a space where women can find support, inspiration, valuable fashion tips, and motherhood advice.
In a world where societal expectations often dictate how moms should dress or balance their lives, Life with Bisi stands as a refreshing and empowering space for women to embrace their true selves. I share my favorite products, fashion and parenting tips, and everything in between.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being creative for me has been self-expression. Being constantly in front of the camera allows me to express myself in a unique way. It serves as a medium for communication that goes beyond words. And over the years, my creative journey has involved pushing my boundaries and fostering resilience and adaptability.
I have a growing community, and the best part of my work is connecting with other people. It has also become a form of stress relief, self-reflection, and emotional escape space for me. Creating content brings tremendous joy and fulfillment. Seeing ideas come to life can be incredibly satisfying.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Show Your Work by Austin Kleon is an incredible book that changed my perspective as a creative. It encourages me to show every aspect of my work, from behind-the-scenes to the finished piece. It makes your community feel like they are on this journey with you.
As people who create, perfectionism can sometimes make us not want to post our content. We think we are missing something.
I can talk about this book all day, as it has helped me so much in my business. If you are a creative, this book will help you share the authentic, human side of creation and build a community around your passion.
