We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bishop Elegino. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bishop below.
Alright, Bishop thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
I would focus more on building a sense of community within the creative world and be more personable with my community.
I feel like i’m starting to do this now 4 years into my career and i’m realizing that having a community supporting your dreams is the biggest motivation to keep going

Bishop , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Bishop Elegino, a New York-based photographer and creative passionate about storytelling and pushing boundaries. My journey began in Los Angeles, where I discovered my love for capturing raw emotion and beauty through the lens. Now, I specialize in fashion and beauty photography, creating visuals that spark conversation, evoke emotion, and challenge norms.
What sets me apart is my ability to connect deeply with my collaborators, creating authentic, bold, and imaginative work. From shooting in snowy Chilean mountains for UGG to capturing creatives’ beauty rituals for LA Times, I approach every project with energy, adaptability, and a fresh perspective.
I’m proud of how my craft has evolved—from moving to New York to launching my own brand and experimenting with daring concepts. My mission is to create visuals that inspire and resonate. Whether you’re a client or a fan, I aim to tell stories that leave a lasting impression and push creative limits.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn in photography is that perfection always equals greatness. Early in my career, I believed every shot had to be meticulously flawless—the lighting, composition, and every detail perfectly aligned. But I’ve come to realize that imperfection often carries the most emotion and authenticity. Some of the most impactful images I’ve created came from embracing unpredictability—whether it’s a model’s raw, unscripted movement or a fleeting moment of chaos during a shoot.
I had to unlearn the idea that art is always controlled and polished. Photography, for me, is now about finding beauty in the unplanned and trusting the process, no matter how messy it may seem. It’s those imperfections that make the work feel alive and truly resonate with people.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Non-creatives often struggle to understand that the creative journey isn’t just about talent or inspiration—it’s about persistence, vulnerability, and constantly embracing uncertainty. As a creative, you’re not just producing work; you’re putting pieces of yourself into everything you create. It’s a cycle of trial, error, and evolution that demands courage and resilience.
