We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Binh Tran a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Binh, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Moving to Austin after college was a leap of faith, a bold step into the unknown that marked the start of a transformative journey. I already knew what it was like living away from home but this was a whole new place for me. Embracing the vibrant energy of the city, I chose to follow my passion for music, leaving behind the familiar for the thrill of chasing my dreams. It was a gamble, but one rooted in a deep belief that the risk would lead to growth, fulfillment, and opportunities to create something meaningful.
Binh, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Networking was the key that got my foot in the door and set my music career in motion. I started by putting myself out there—playing open decks, showing up at events, and connecting with like-minded individuals. Each interaction built momentum, and as I formed genuine friendships, my network began to expand. Over time, the caliber of people I met elevated the opportunities available to me. From local gigs to chances to perform around the country, it was the relationships I nurtured that opened doors and propelled me forward in the industry.
Memory updated
I’m incredibly proud of the accomplishments I’ve achieved and the new cities I’ve had the chance to explore. Back then, I dreamed of making it to Vegas, and this year, I turned that dream into reality. Breaking into markets like Los Angeles, Miami, and Vegas while being a Texas native showed me that it doesn’t matter where I’m from—what truly matters is believing in myself and staying committed to my goals. This journey has been a powerful reminder that confidence and hard work can open doors anywhere.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Society as community is vital to an artist’s growth and success. One of the key responsibilities of being a successful artist is building a strong, supportive community around your brand. It’s not just about creating art—it’s about creating connections that resonate with people. Fans, friends, and family are the backbone of your journey, offering the encouragement and support needed to keep pushing forward. As your community grows, so does your reach and impact. Their belief in you fuels your motivation, and their shared energy becomes a driving force behind every milestone and victory.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I had known about music production trade schools… Pursuing a music trade school was an idea I wish I knew about as it offers the opportunity to refine my craft and gain deeper insights into the industry. It’s not just about becoming a better musician—it’s about understanding the technical and business aspects that can elevate my career to the next level. The chance to learn from experienced professionals, collaborate with other passionate individuals, and access resources I wouldn’t otherwise have is invaluable. I see it as an investment in my growth, a step that would empower me to create, perform, and navigate the music world with greater confidence and skill.
