We were lucky to catch up with Bing Fu recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Bing, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Acting came late to me in life, and it happened rather inadvertently. I had always been relatively artistic – I could draw and play music and dabbled in those early on in life but acting was something I had never explored until I was already in my 40’s. It just so happened that a change in my life gave me some unexpected freedom and I was able to answer a casting call with a local agency who proceeded to sign me on the spot. From there I was able to land work fairly quickly and from that point on I knew that this was something that I wanted to continue to pursue.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
So as I mentioned I basically stumbled into acting later in life after having no experience in the business. However, after working at it for the past 6-7 years I feel like I can fit a variety of roles both commercially and theatrically. Whether the project calls for a husband, a father, a professional, or an everyman, I feel like I have the look and the range to fit a variety of different needs for casting.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
The business is fickle, and there are many ins and outs that people don’t understand. I continue to see new aspiring actors make mistakes that allow them to have unrealistic expectations or otherwise be misled by individuals or organizations with less than pure intentions.. So I think doing your due diligence and learning as much as possible about the business is important for any aspiring actors to make sure they aren’t taken advantage of and can make informed decisions about their expectations.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I am always seeking to do a better job than before, to become better at my craft and deliver a better acting performance. I try not to focus too much on financial success, but it is nearly every actor’s dream to be able to act full time as a profession, myself included.
