We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bilyndra Walker a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Bilyndra, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Growing up, I had so much stacked against me. I didn’t grow up with a silver spoon but I was surrounded by people who wanted to see me win and encouraged me to go after all of my dreams. So, when the pandemic happened, I wanted to figure out a way to give back. Becoming a photographer was a huge risk because I’m surrounded by so many great photographers but I still went after it. I reached out to so many to help mentor me and was turned down or simply ignored. My personal trainer and fellow photographer Christy took me under her wing and helped me out a lot. I offered free Senior pictures and felt I was taken advantage of but it didn’t change my love for photography. I’ve gained so many clients because my work ethic speaks for itself. I give 100% at everything I do.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Beyond the Negative is what I call my small photography business. I offer free and low-cost Senior Pictures to those who wouldn’t be able to afford them. I believe that Senior Year is a big deal. So, no Senior should skip photos because of cost. I offer great pictures and I don’t limit the number of pictures. My pictures are quality and my clients are always pleased with their pictures. I’m most proud of the fact that I’m not in it for the money. I just believe that people can get quality without spending a lot of money. I offer packages that fit into every budget. I want potential clients to know they will get quality pictures and they won’t break the bank and that’s what sets me apart.
My ultimate goal is to partner with a hairstylist/barber & MUA to give Senior’s the full experience at no cost. A Senior who really wouldn’t get that experience otherwise.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Word of mouth. I believe in giving my all in everything and anyone who has encountered me in anything I do, knows that I’m genuine and what you see is what you get with me.
My Senior pictures lead to me being able to do pictures for all occasions (Birthday’s, weddings, engagement, etc.).
That was something I wasn’t expecting but I’m absolutely excited about it!
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
All of my clients have my direct contact information they also can go to my Instagram to see photos and DM me
