We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Billy Winfield a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Billy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
That’s a tough one! If it came down to it I would choose my second to last released project titled “Failed to Load..”. I’d choose this one for multiple reasons, first is because my wife does the computer voice that connects the whole project together. Second would be for the reasoning behind it, about 7 years ago I had a computer crash causing me to lose a lot of unsaved music. When you read the titles to the songs in order it’s the exact phases my computer went through before crashing.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
To start my name is Billy Winfield and I’m from Jacksonville Florida! I started making rap music when I was 16 years old and I’m 29 now. I got into the industry seriously around 21 when I hit my first tour opening up for my friend Mark Battles and from there the rest is history! I’ve now toured all over the U.S. and have reached over a few 100 thousand streams on more than 5 songs! Everything I do is completely organic and independent. As for my most proud moment, that would have to be being the first independent white rapper from Jacksonville to tour in the UK! Thankful to say I made a small part of history happen for Jax!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
That’s an easy one, the love and appreciation! There’s no better feeling than people being able to relate and find self help from within your music.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Don’t gatekeep your favorite artists! Every like, share, comment, repost and stream could change their lives! It may not seem like it but when fans ban together they have the power to make their favorite artist become taken more seriously by their fellow artist peers. Numbers can be fabricated but real fans cannot!
