Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Billy Wilson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Billy, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career.
I think that we need to start doing more classes that prepare you for life outside of your childhood years. I remember coming up through school and take the prolife classes at our school and we learnt a little bit about all of that, but it wasn’t in depth. I would love to see more classes like that so the youth can be a little more prepared for the outside world.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
This show started out as just something a friend of mine and I did for fun to talk to people in the local community to get their voices heard. It eventually evolved into a place for local bands, businesses, artists, and friends to come on and talk about what they are passionate about. We currently are releasing one episode a week every Wednesday at 4 am on all major Streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Podcast, and iHeart Radio. What I think sets us apart from other shows is that we are not afraid to talk about the controversial topics. We like to have our lighthearted conversations but what I thoroughly enjoy is having discussions that normally cause fights on social media. I think as a country we need to be able to have these conversations without it always being an argument so we can grow as people and a community. Having a platform for local artists and people to have a voice that can extend outside of our local community. My biggest mission with this show is to do what I can to help this local area be seen outside of the tri state area. Nothing makes me happier than getting an email from a fan telling me they loved the episode with this person and want to check out their music, artwork, or business.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My biggest goal is to create a space for more than just locals to be heard but also anyone else that feels like they can’t be heard.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Facebook in 2021 allowed for you to listen to podcast on the app. With them doing that it made it easier for smaller shows to get their episodes out to a crowd that normally doesn’t use streaming services. Things were booming for us in the beginning of 2022. Episodes downloads were up and engagement on social media engagement was up so on and so forth. Then Facebook quit allowing people to listen to any podcast on their platform. After that I noticed the downloads started dropping and social media engagement started falling. When I took to notice of that I had to shift how we were being seen on social media.
