We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Billy Gemmill. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Billy below.
Hi Billy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
It started on the road. After years of working behind the scenes across tours, festivals, TV/film, and branded content, I noticed the same challenges: high-pressure environments with little room for error, teams stretched thin, and creative visions threatened by poor logistics or lack of support. I saw firsthand how the difference between a successful and stressful production often came down to operational foresight, clear communication, and dependable people in the right roles.
That insight catalyzes Six One Live—a company built to provide full-spectrum production, tour direction, and operations support while fostering creative collaboration with artists, agencies, and brands. However, as I continued supporting talent on the road, another critical need became just as clear: the lack of consistent, high-quality medical care available to artists and crews while touring.
That’s where Rock Doc Six One Live was born—an extension of our services that directly brings entertainment medical concierge support to the tour or event site. From trauma stabilization and IV therapy to injury care and wellness treatments, we ensure that performers and crew can keep going safely, confidently, and with peace of mind. It’s specialized care, tailored for life on the road—something the industry was missing.
What drives me is solving real problems in creative environments—whether building out a seamless run-of-show, leading tour logistics, or ensuring someone gets the care they need before hitting the stage. Six One Live is about showing up prepared, staying two steps ahead, and delivering a ” levesionalism ” that artists, managers, and production partners can count on. That’s how this business came to life: through lived experience, a passion for the craft, and a commitment to doing things differently—because the show must go on, and it should go on well.

Billy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Billy Gemmill, Owner and Executive Producer at SIX ONE LIVE, a Nashville-based entertainment and media production company. I’ve been in the industry for over 20 years, and my journey began behind the scenes—first as a production runner, then working my way up through logistics and operations to producing and managing full-scale events across the country and abroad.
SIX ONE LIVE was born out of a passion for delivering world-class experiences—whether a high-energy tour, an immersive brand activation, a festival, or a broadcast production. We offer comprehensive production and general management services tailored to the entertainment world. That includes everything from traditional and non-traditional touring, concerts, and live events to TV, film, digital media, and experiential marketing.
What sets us apart is our holistic, boots-on-the-ground approach. We don’t just consult—we’re in the trenches with our clients, ensuring every detail is dialed in. We specialize in bridging the gap between creative vision and operational execution, managing everything from budget and logistics to vendor coordination and compliance.
I’m especially proud of the medical concierge program we launched, Rock Doc Six One Live. It’s a game-changing service that ensures artists and talent have access to emergency professionals, IV therapy, trauma stabilization, and a suite of wellness services while on tour. It’s about protecting the people behind the performance.
I want clients and collaborators to know that we’re more than a service provider—we’re a partner. We bring clarity, stability, and excellence to every project we touch. Whether you need end-to-end production or targeted support, we’re here to make your vision a reality—and make it look easy.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
My story about how I met my business partner, Ian Huff, goes back a long way—long before production schedules and load-ins.
Ian and I met when we were 8, playing NYSA (Nashville Youth Soccer Association) together. We played soccer from NYSA all the way through high school. Over the years, we stayed connected through different phases of life—school, early jobs, and eventually, both landing in our professional fields: me in live event production and Ian as a paramedic, working his way through med school.
Years later, we had the opportunity to work together professionally for the first time while I was on an international tour in Amsterdam. One of my clients needed immediate medical assistance, and my first call was to Ian. He stepped in to help without hesitation, coordinating care quickly and professionally. In that moment, everything clicked — the trust, communication, and natural teamwork we developed as kids translated seamlessly into a high-stakes, real-world situation. It was clear we had something special to build on.
After that experience, we reconnected more intentionally and discussed the bigger picture. With my background in large-scale production and Ian’s expertise in emergency medicine, we recognized a unique opportunity to build something that served the entertainment industry more holistically, offering production support and critical on-site medical care.
Our partnership is rooted in decades of trust and collaboration and continues to evolve as we bring innovative, people-first solutions to every project we take on. Working with someone you’ve known most of your life brings a deep level of understanding and shared values. From teammates on the field to co-founders in business, our journey has come full circle—our foundation fuels everything we do.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing our clientele has honestly been rooted in relationships and reputation. In this industry, word of mouth carries more weight than any ad campaign ever could. We’ve built trust by consistently delivering under pressure—being the team that shows up prepared, solves problems fast, and brings a calm, collaborative energy no matter how high the stakes.
Every tour, show, or production we take on becomes a calling card. Clients remember when you anticipate their needs before they ask, when you make their lives easier, and when you treat the crew, the talent, and the brand with the same level of respect. That’s led to a lot of repeat business and referrals.
We also value being easy to work with—clear communication, transparency, and professionalism go a long way, especially in high-stress environments like live events or touring. As we’ve expanded with Rock Doc Six One Live, offering entertainment medical concierge services, that unique add-on has opened doors to a whole new segment of clients who need both production and wellness support.
We’ve grown by doing great work, staying consistent, and letting our results—and the trust we build—speak for us.
