Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Billy Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Billy , thanks for joining us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I would like for people to know that I’m a genuine person that truly cares about others. My business started with GOD’s help and things were easier because of that. I’ve been a Medical Engineer for over 25 years now and in a small way feel as if I have helped people during my career. I want my legacy to about a person that is has endured, persevered, and sustained while trying to build something to eventually help some people that are in need. I’d like to use my business to help the homeless and less fortunate. I understand that a blessing is not just for myself, it’s often to help others. I also want my brand to be around for a long time to come. I want to give people hope by knowing that I created my products in my kitchen with my hands and creativity. I also used money from my savings to start. I didn’t want to owe anyone. I want to be a company that is well respected and known for the best healthy seasonings around. My All-Purpose seasoning products are Gluten Free, Keri friendly, low sodium, low sugar and healthy while maintaining great flavor. I recently placed 2nd in the International Flavor Awards for 2022 and sealing 1st for 2023. I’m currently found at Cash Saver grocery in Dallas and Duncanville, M&C Lumber and Gifts in Hamlin Texas, The Pool Stop in Rockwall Tx, The Kitchsy Cupboard in Rockwall Tx, Etsy.com, and select HEB stores in Texas. Lastly, I pray that someone can receive some inspiration and motivation from my story and take a leap of faith and not procrastinate any longer and strive for their dreams. Anything is possible!

Billy , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve been making and mixing spices for at least 8 years and in business for 3 1/2 years. I made my 1st blend, called Pure Heaven. Then I started researching what people like the most and where to purchase the spices to experiment in my kitchen. I’ve since been able to create 7 flavors with 2 others in progress. My goal is to have 10 flavors. Time is the biggest hurdle now with working a 9-5 job and working with seasonings after work daily. One of my greatest accomplishments was being able to mass produce finally. I’ve learned that you have to always put money back into your business. Every check doesn’t mean take a shopping spree. You must always have operating funds. I’ve also missed apt of events due to working my seasoning business. I’ve had to have 2 injections in my left thumb from repetition from making so many bottles. I have never given up and that’s the key. There will be many negative people that will not support, but they’ll soon become believers when you start to succeed. It’s just let it doing something great. Stay the course.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I didn’t want to owe anyone so I funded my own start. I started with $3k and my goal was always to have my business eventually fund itself and now it is. I was afraid of the PPE loans that many were getting during the Covid Pandemic. I didn’t want to receive money and be stressed trying to pay it back. It was just a preference of mine.
Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
One of my marketing stories is while doing a demo (not saying what store) a gentleman came up to me and said, “I know the seasonings are good can I can see everyone buying it, but I’m not gonna buy any because you have your face on the bottle.” I didn’t realize at the time how it motivated me more to leave things that way they are and stand firm. I did and it worked. My seasonings have won 10 awards with my face still on the bottle.
