We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Billy Bernal. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Billy below.
Hi Billy , thanks for joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
Making a living as an artist has both rewarding and challenging. I’ve had the creative freedom to fully express myself and explore my creativity without any constraints from working a typical 9-5. I’ve been able to create my own income based off the different jobs/procedures I do on clients This has been anything from Microblading down to those cute little freckles everyone wants. Through my journey I have come to moments where business has been a little slow so this forced me to get even more creative and set up a new deal or promotion to keep my name relevant. It is extremely crucial in this day and age to market yourself on social media, get your name, face and body of work out there so you can stand out from the rest. Though it was been tough I wouldn’t change my life for anything different Many artists find joy in the impact their work has on others. Whether it inspires, provokes thought, or simply brings beauty into the world, this connection can be profoundly rewarding. If you’re not willing to put yourself out there and put in the work to do it all yourself this industry isn’t for you. It is with the love and support of my loved ones that I have been able to keep my business afloat. Overall, being an artist is a unique journey that requires passion, perseverance, and a willingness to embrace both the highs and lows of the creative life.

Billy , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My journey into Permanent Makeup is driven by a passion for beauty and artistry, I embarked on my journey into the world of permanent makeup with deep-rooted desire to enhance natural beauty and empower individuals. My venture began humbly, stemming from a fascination with eyebrows and a keen eye for details
After intensive training and certification in micropigmentation techniques, I established my own Permanent Makeup practice. Starting small, I initially operated from a cozy studio, tirelessly perfecting my skills and building a loyal clientele through word-of mouth recommendations.Driven by a commitment to quality and client satisfaction, I quickly earned a reputation for meticulous work and personalized service. My dedication to staying updated with the latest trends and techniques in the industry ensured that my clients received cutting-edge treatments tailored to their unique preferences.
As my business flourished, I expanded my services to include a variety of permanent makeup options, from Microblading to Ombré and Lip Blush tattooing. Each procedure was executed with precision and an artistic touch, reflecting my unwavering commitment to delivering natural-looking results that enhanced my clients’ natural features.
Today, I continue to lead my Permanent Makeup practice with passion and innovation. My journey stands as a testament to the transformative power of permanent makeup, helping clients achieve confidence and effortless beauty every day.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a Permanent Makeup Artist is the ability to boost someone’s confidence and make them feel beautiful. Creating a look that enhances their features and reflects their personality can be incredibly fulfilling. Additionally, building connections with clients and seeing their joy after a transformation can be a powerful experience. It’s also rewarding to continually learn and grow in a dynamic field, experimenting with new techniques and trends.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
What a lot of people wouldn’t know is that I suffer from chronic back pain. It comes and goes in waves but this year in particular I got hit with it the worst. The nature of my practice makes me slump over people to create the perfect angles to target the face. This year I had days where I had to cancel on clients left and right and very abruptly in order to rest my back. During my good days I would do my best to give my best to my clients and I would push through my pain. I did everything in my power to get better, I stretched, took pain meds, physical therapy etc. It wasn’t until I had absolutely enough that I decided to get surgery. Boy I wish I could have told myself back then to just skip everything and get the surgery. During my recovery time I completely revamped my workspace to have a more ergonomic work station so I can be just as comfortable as my clients. This past year I have shown myself how resilient I truly can be, I worked hard, put in the work and didn’t show how badly I was hurting on the inside to give the best service I possible could.
