We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Billie Gaura a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Billie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Though it’s used as a buzzword these days, there’s no denying that integrity is the foundation of everything that matters. Our ability to keep and honor our word is all that we have.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
For more than 20 years, I’ve been the the driving force behind several dynamic businesses. Some are my own and some belong to my clients. As an award winning Brand Architect, I’ve always been most committed to elevating micro businesses through effective visual communication and strong messaging.
Never one to rest on my laurels, I am always embracing the next level of “badassery”. I temper the whirling storm of ideas that continually converge in my brain with a borderline obsession on customer service.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
We build relationships with our customers through social media. The level of personal rapport and genuine interconnectedness is considerable. The pandemic provided an opening for us to launch and grow Fluid Art Company through a surprisingly strong digital connection. Lots of kick-ass, active people were stuck at home without an outlet for creativity and connection. We’d already had the business plan written and so the opportunity to hop in was a no-brainer. We legitimately have the coolest customers this industry has ever known and serving them is a blast!
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
While we totally love to put together witty ads and put on niche-based events, the truth is that word of mouth has always been our biggest source of new business and I imagine it will always be that way. Our customers are nothing short of a really fun and zany loyal family and they ring bells on our behalf better than we ever could.
We like to test market our new products with our customers before we put them in full production and they steer us right every time. Most of the time, they tell us we knock it out of the park and every once in while, we get the thumbs down and we know we need to go back to the drawing board. When we nail it, they tell everyone about it. There’s a lot of pride and kinship in what we do and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
