We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Billi Watson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Billi , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
I’ve had the ability to experience both working a corporate job for 20 years and being a full time business owner for the last three years. It has definitely been an adjustment but I can honestly say that I’m happier as a business owner. The ability to set my own schedule and spend more time focusing on my family has been the biggest benefit. I have had moments of considering going back to work and even worked part time for a little over a year. While it was nice to have the safety net of consistent income, I wasn’t happy. I didn’t like being tied to my desk and phone every day. I was quickly reminded that sitting in meetings after meeting and not being able to be creative wasn’t for me anymore. Once I was able to leave and return to being a full time business owner, I did so and don’t plan on returning to work in the near future.

Billi , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a multi-hyphenate creative and owner of Glamher Creative Agency. I work with businesses and organizations to provide digital marketing services, from social media branding to strategic marketing plans. It’s my goal to assist those who may not have a huge budget or knowledge needed to handle the digital marketing needs. Glamher Creative aims to meet them where they are and tell their brand’s story digitally and in real life. I love being able to watch each of my clients flourish with my guidance and have long lasting brands.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients has come from Word of Mouth. Being referred by my current and past clients is one of the biggest compliments I can receive. Knowing that people trust me and love my work enough to recommend me to someone else is what keeps me going on those rough days. I am so grateful to my core group of clients that continuously bring new clients to Glamher Creative.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
Initially, I started Glamher Creative by utilizing my personal funds. I also used the money earned from my very first client and my retirement fund to buy the supplies needed to ensure my agency was able to service more clients. It’s not an easy thing to do, especially when things started off slowly and I was no longer working a 9 to 5. I can appreciate it now, as my business was built from the ground up using my own funds. While I still fund my business strictly from revenue earned, I do plan to consider other options as I scale my business.
