We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bill Wright. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bill below.
Bill, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I spent 15 years in the professional wrestling industry. In that time I noticed a variety of problems including wrestlers working for free for shady promoters, wrestling fans not being able to find local wrestling, and talent and promotions not having any kind of transparency.
So when looking to create a new business with my wife I told her about my idea to connect the entire wrestling industry on a mobile app that will address these issues and more.
Bill, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Bill Wright. I wrestled for 8 years as a technical submission artist known only as exodus. Then reinvented myself as a Bounty Hunter known as Hunter X which mirrored my almost 4 years as a real life bail bondsman.
I also experienced the industry of wrestling through the eyes of a special referee, manager of multiple groups, and a promoter of the Wrestler Alliance Revolution.
I have always loved the creative side of the business and show business in general. I have directed short films, acted in independent films and music videos, and just finished my first movie script about… of course… pro wrestling.
I bring more than twenty years of retail management and sales experience, having sold everything from toys and jewelry, to furniture and even houses.
How did you build your audience on social media?
In order to prove to my business and life partner that our new business concept was not without a substantial potential user base, we set out on a viral campaign to recruit a user base on a “Launch List” for the upcoming Mobile App.
From Cold Calls, To gorilla marketing on social media, to low cost advertising such as shorts, reels and posts, to touring podcasts about pro wrestling.
Thanks to the efforts in four months we gained 500 wrestling talent pre registered as users and 121 promotions across 31 states in the USA and even one in Canada.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Referrals! Having been in the business for 15 years has been a blessing and giving me a lot of contacts. But most of our users including some of the Big Indy companies have come from our strategy to ask for and follow up with referrals.
