We were lucky to catch up with Bill Stephens recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bill, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
I initially started a clothing company that did fairly well. I started to post videos about vehicle related things because i also buy/sell/ and fix vehicles. I went viral for a video i didn’t think anything of. I ran out of gas at Home Depot, posted the solution and it went super viral. After i went viral and got monetized i decided to use the social media money to give away cheap vehicles to people in need. So far i have given away 2 completely free vehicles and I’m only getting started.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I fell into the clothing company just by having the resources. It evolved into so much more. I hope to involve my clothing company with my social media eventually to raise more funds for giveaways. But i want to give vehicles away for completely free no purchases necessary because the people that really really need a vehicle can’t buy a shirt for a chance to win.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
After going viral I got a little hate in the comments. Not going to lie it got to me just a smidge but i knew it happened for a reason and it couldn’t rain forever. Now I’m showing people the positive influence that I’ve always been, and I’m glad i didn’t delete my first viral video because of the hate.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
After i made my first $600 on social media i wanted to do something good with it and give back to the people that made me that money even if it was out of hate. I already had a cheap car so i decided to put some extra money in it to get it fixed right and give it away to a follower in need. Thankfully i had help from my buddy Erik and his dad who own a body shop in Grand Prairie. They painted and did all the work free for the good cause. After all the attention on that post for a wrecked car i realized how many people needed help. So i went out of pocket and bought another car to give away. I have faith I’ll make the money back off social media eventually but for now i just have to keep making other content until i can afford to give another away.
