We were lucky to catch up with Bill Masure recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Bill, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
There have been many. One favorite story covered the debate about grizzly bear hunting in Montana, Idaho and Wyoming. The decision to hunt the bears eventually failed in court. A grea day for conservationists and bear lovers.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I worked for more than three decades as a photojournalist for TV stations in the midwest and Colorado. I always loved telling people’s stories. Blending words, pictures and sound gave me a creative outlet while serving the information needs of television news watchers.
I’m now working as a content creator for a non-profit that uses technology to protect endangered animals and ecosystems. We are building a library of endangered species in a 360º video format that transports the viewer into the world of wild animals.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The Covid-19 pandemic gave me an opportunity to use all my talents (video and still photography, audio and lighting, producing and editing) to help deliver content and host events remotely and online. Myy colleagues who only had one talent sometimes struggled to find work.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
These days it’s conservation. The planet is undergoing tremendous change. Man’s impact has been difficult for our planet to absorb.
I’m especially focused on jaguars in Brazil and finding ways to reduce human-wildlife conflict there.
