Hi Bill D., we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started with a love for working with my hands and creating something special for people. After finishing school, I opened my first barbershop in [location/year]. It was small at first, but I worked hard and built strong relationships with my clients.
Over time, I was able to grow my business into multiple locations. Now, I also run 028 Barber School, where I teach and help others who want to become great barbers. Helping people and improving my craft has always been my biggest goal, and I’m excited about what’s next!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but I think that’s true for most journeys worth taking. Starting out, one of the biggest challenges was building trust with clients and standing out in a competitive industry. There were also financial struggles in the early days, like managing costs and balancing growth with stability.
As the business grew, hiring the right people and maintaining consistent quality across multiple locations became a new challenge. But each struggle taught me something important, how to adapt, stay focused, and keep improving. Looking back, those challenges made the successes even more meaningful.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my most memorable childhood experiences is growing up in Korea with my mom, dad, and younger brother. Like many kids there, I faced a lot of pressure from the education system. Between school and after-school academies, my days were packed with studying late into the night, leaving little room for free time. It was stressful and often felt overwhelming.
When I decided to pursue barbering, something I was truly passionate about, my parents were initially against it. They wanted me to follow a more traditional path, and it took a lot of conversations, time, and understanding for them to see why this career was so important to me. Eventually, they came around and supported me, and that journey of gaining their trust and encouragement has stayed with me ever since.
That experience taught me the importance of following my own path, even when it’s difficult, and how meaningful it is to have the support of loved ones along the way.
