We recently connected with Bil Brown and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Bil thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
At the end of 2024, I released a long time client and business partner because the situation was becoming less than acceptable. There was no real hard feelings about it but it was time to go. The industry was changing rapidly and the client, always demanding, was making demands that didn’t make sense. I could have stayed on and made significantly less money than I had with them, but still made something, but I decided to release them completely while I could make something.
What this meant was, I had to put my money (literally) where my mouth was and be an artist full time. I am older, middle age, not even early middle age I am still youthful but am as far away from my 20s as I was in my 20s from being born. To start again is a big risk, especially since the only assets I have are my wits and a body of work I have created over a few decades that isn’t exactly making me a large income.
As of today, its happening. I like the fact that I am in charge completely of what I am doing and how it is executed. I don’t have anyone demanding anything that is wholely uncomfortable for me and although I have to hustle more than I have in years, its worth it to have complete freedom.

Bil, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a creative artist. I am not a commercial artist. What sets me apart from others is simply – if you like it you like it, if you don’t you don ‘t. I really don’t care one way or another. The people that come to me know I am uncompromising and I beleive have a visual signature that says whatever I do is mine and mine alone.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I tried NFTs during the pandemic. To me they are essntially a scam.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
making the systems to survive.
