We recently connected with BiCoastal Pack and have shared our conversation below.
BiCoastal, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Growing up I have always been a creative being. At a young age I was always intrigued by whats new my particulars were computers, cameras, music and fashion. I remember getting my 1st camera for Christmas when I was in middle school. I believe that started it all. After attending and graduating high school, I set out to pursue a career as a music video director. For me a music video is a clash of visual storytelling and fashion, I love both and had been watching music videos since I was a small kid. After graduating college I got more into the photography side of the camera and focusing mostly on fashion photography. While strictly putting my focus on fashion photography it sparked my interest to be an actual fashion designer. I have been designing now for almost 10 years, and I am self taught. I took a random path to get to the point but it has been so worth it.
BiCoastal, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am self taught Fashion designer. I create custom garments and ready to wear pieces for my brand Bicoastal Collection. When creating pieces for my brand i like to define the style as “Luxury Sport”. When creating custom garments i love to give my clients timeless one of a kind piece, you never be under or over dressed. I also design garments for prom season, custom gowns and custom suits, that is typically my busiest time of the year. The thing that sets me apart from other designers is having a unique style thats luxury but not gaudy, always something thats guaranteed to turn heads. Im most proud to be a self taught male in this female dominated industry.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish i would actually went to college first for fashion design. Its something i always wanted to do, In the past I have had a lot of self doubt and second guessing on if this is something I really should pursue. So never give up or doubt yourself, if you have that spark go for it. Life is all about finding your way, so if something doesn’t work then try something else.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a designer is seeing the finish product being displayed on the client. To see a client wear something that I created from start to finish is a feeling I can’t describe, and it’s a plus when its worn proudly.
