SubscribeWe were lucky to catch up with Bianca Vayna recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Bianca, thanks for joining us today. Can you tell us about an important lesson you learned while working at a prior job?
To become comfortable with the uncomfortable. When one is growing or learning something new, this process can be rather uncomfortable. I have come to understand that this is part of learning; failing is part of the process. To be able to look at something you have never done before with curiosity. To let yourself not be perfect while you break it down and enjoy the aspect of discovering. To be open to the learning process, is a gift to oneself.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello! I am the founder of Lovisa Salon. A small boutique hair salon located in Hyde Park, Cincinnati, Ohio. I came into this industry by chance. It began when I took a receptionist job at an established hair salon in Beverly Hills, California. This is where I fell in love with the hair industry. I ended up assisting one of the top stylists, this helped launch my career in Los Angeles, California. I worked in Beverly Hills and the West Hollywood area for over 15 years, before deciding to move back to Ohio to be closer to my family. I have taken all the knowledge I learned along with the California aesthetic, which is natural looking hair that leans into glamour, with me. I feel everyone can have beautiful hair.
I strive to create a place that delivers modern looks, whether its leans more classic or is more contemporary, along with positive energy. It is not only important how you make one look, but also how you make one feel. We combine these principles with practices to help reduce salon waste.
Lovisa salon is an eco-conscious, casual-lux experience. Where one can come to relax and unwind. A place where you can decompress and be taken care of. That also is a creative and a supportive space to work.

Have you ever had to pivot?
During the pandemic I needed to pivot. I was very concerned about helping my clients take care of their hair when everything was shut down. So, I developed color kits. It was their very own customized formula, and it included all the tools that were needed, along with step-by-step instructions. I was also available for phone, or video calls if needed. My retail was also available, so nobody had to go without. My clients were thrilled about this. I personally delivered it to their home, placed it wherever I was instructed to. They were able to pay me online, so everything was contactless. I was still able to provide for my clients. This also helped keep me busy during this time, which I was very grateful for. I still have clients purchase color kits for when they go out of town for extended periods.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I feel my resilience came in to play when I moved from California to Ohio. I left a wonderful career and needed to start all over again. I had no clientele and needed to rebuild. I was willing to style and color anyone that wanted to get their hair done. I began with the whole reception staff. I wanted them to get to know me, my services, my expertise. To see what I was all about. This way they could personally speak about me. I gave them a true salon experience. And it was my work that clients saw when they checked in or out. I was also available for any of the stylist, support staff, their family members, that were interested in me doing their hair. This helped me appear busy to the salon and guests.
In under 3 years I was completely booked with a waiting list.
