Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bianca Tucker . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Bianca , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
I’ll never forget the time I quit my full time job to pursue my passion in event design. This was huge risk because my business hadn’t fully blossomed, it wasn’t even considered a real business at the time, but me and my partner were confident in what we were trying to build and we knew it would take our full dedication and time.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
It’s sort of funny looking back, how me my best friend got swept into the event business. It all started with my sons birthday party. I reached out to another local event designer hoping that she would accommodate my request. We went over details of the event for weeks, shared ideas, started ordering material and even paid a deposit. A few days before the event, she went ghost! Stopped replying to messages, emails, phone calls, and even blocked me from social media. I was devastated! I started to Panic when I realized I was just scammed! So I reached out to my best friend, and somehow we managed to put together an extravagant birthday party on our own for my son with just a few days to prepare and a tight budget. We took a look back at what we had just done, and realized we were pretty good at it. From there, we started doing small events for our friends and our family. Honestly, I wouldn’t be doing what I do now if it wasn’t for my partner and best friend Loryn. She put me in a room full of balloons and said ” this is what your going to do, and your going to be great at it!” She knew I had a niche and she pushed me. We started ordering linens, then centerpieces, then throne chairs, until eventually we had all the materials we needed to start an event design business. People loved what we were doing and eventually we were able to open Reflections Event Space. Our very own canvas that we could transform for our clients as well as rent out to other event designers for any occasion. We quickly realized that people love convenience. By making Reflections a “one stop shop” It gave us an advantage. Reflections Event Space has many amenities that other venues have to outsource for. Reflections provides luxury seating with clear chiavari chairs, round tables, Epoxied floors, full room uplighting, full room drapery in a variety of colors, and full service decor to accommodate any Color scheme or theme. We also have a plethora of throne chairs, a gif photo booth, and 360 photo booth as add on options. On March 16, 2022 everything changed when my partner and best friend suddenly and unexpectedly passed away. I thought that it was the end of it all. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to continue any of it without her. It took a lot of convincing from both of our families to keep pushing through with the dream and business that we built together but deep down I knew she wanted me to keep going. In all of our accomplishments, Reflections Event Space is what loryn was most proud of. Loryn is what I’m most proud of .
How’d you meet your business partner?
I cannot recall the time that I met Loryn Perkins. Our mothers were good friends who ended up pregnant at the same time. We were born only five days apart. I don’t know a time that we weren’t acquainted. Loryn has literally been my best friend since birth. Through Loryn I met Terrance, her fiancé and the father of her children. Terrance entered the event business as we did. Being the supportive fiancé, he now continues loryns role as my business partner. Terrance has been apart of the business from day 1 watching it all unfold. I couldn’t see myself doing this with anyone else.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
I have found that the best source for new clients has definitely been social media! We get 90% of our bookings from social media like Facebook and Instagram. On Facebook and Instagram we also promote a lot of our work by creating ads. Social media is the best free advertisement. When people like what they see, they tend to share your post and before you know it you’re reaching an audience that you normally wouldn’t have access to.
