We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bianca Rugimbana. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bianca below.
Hi Bianca , thanks for joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
People within the industry often say “team no sleep”, yet what sets BMRPR apart from the industry standard is that “around the clock” truly means 24 hours of work on a global scale.
For example:
- When it’s 2.00PM in Los Angeles, California on a Monday, it’s 7.00AM on a Tuesday morning in Brisbane, Australia
- When it’s 11.00AM in Atlanta, Georgia on a Wednesday, it’s 2.00AM on a Thursday morning in Sydney, Australia
- When it’s 12.00PM in London, UK on a Monday, it’s 8.00PM on a Tuesday in Melbourne, Australia
In saying this, it’s also important to take care of your health and well-being. To accommodate our growing roster, I’ve created an organized schedule and routine for my personal and professional life, alongside having a great support team in the US, UK and South Africa.
Americans are hustlers, but working across global time zones is unheard of as an industry standard, especially with a small team. I take pride in going over and beyond for my people and delivering results.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I pride myself on understanding my clients personally, so they can deliver professionally. If a client is unhappy on a Tuesday, they may not deliver until Friday and that could hurt their potential results. I always want to make sure my clients are in good spirits, and they also know we’re here to support them in any capacity.
As a company, BMRPR is an agency specializing in public relations, marketing and branding. We’ve worked on a variety of projects and collaborations at all levels, on a global scale. As a team, we’re dedicated to ensuring the success of each individual, company and project that we have the opportunity to work with.
I’m proud of the solid reputation I’ve built, the great relationships developed and the contacts I adore and maintain within the entertainment, music, sports, creative arts and culinary arts industries.
Personally, I also pride the business on the fact that it was built from the ground up through nothing but hard work, late nights, personal research, my own money/investments, and being relentless each day – no matter how many “NO’s” or failures came my way.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
With the personality that I have, I naturally love to see people WIN without any reward of my own. This was a very important lesson that I had to unlearn, not only within the industry but with people in general. Analyzing every situation and seeing who pours into your cup, in the same way you do theirs, has provided myself and the business with far more success.
Not everyone is for you, many want to use you, and yet I find comfort in knowing, there’s also many great people in this industry. It’s just a matter of being aware and finding the right ones.
It’s also very important to encourage open communication. I’ve personally found that while people struggle with talking things through? Transparency and great communication is key.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
It can be difficult to find people who understand you, the vision you have for your business, people who are kind, selfless, professional, and yet just as hardworking as you are.
I was fortunate enough to meet DeVynne Starks, Principle Publicist and Owner of Cultiv8PR in May of 2021. DeVynne was originally hired as an Executive Assistant to support BMRPR, yet in a matter of months, her expertise and knowledge truly outweighed her role. From here, we both decided that working as business partners to support one another’s growing companies was a better fit.
DeVynne is not only an astute, qualified professional with over a decade of experience, but also a wonderful business partner, my go-to-gal and someone who continues to add value to my company and many others she is aligned with.
