We recently connected with Bianca Nazario and have shared our conversation below.
Bianca, appreciate you joining us today. Innovation comes in all shapes, sizes and across all industries, so we’d love to hear about something you’ve done that you feel was particularly innovative.
In the middle of Covid during 2020, I created a creative collective, The Collective Body, with my friend C’arrah Garvin. Being a small business owner myself, the goal was to create community and allow other small business owners to become connected not only in the Orlando creative scene but to find ways to support each other financially + creatively in that season. We organized creative markets, paint nights, meetups, and more to bring awareness to the need of networking locally in Orlando and provide platforms for everyone. That is where I met a lot of new business friends and we all learned from each other!
Bianca, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have always been a creative and grew up wanting to be an artist just like my dad. I constantly took art classes and was always doodling or watching YouTube videos to learn more. I started SimplyBeeClothingCo in 2018 during my freshmen year of college at SCAD. It was mainly to be a hobby but turned into more during Covid as I was navigating where I really wanted to take my brand. I make most things by hand including my stickers and clay pins. I create my own art characters and recently started releasing clothing items which I am really happy about. I am pursuing a bachelors degree in advertising/pr at UCF and plan to focus on copywriting when I graduate this upcoming semester. I want to use my business not only as a creative outlet for my art and vision, but as a way to shed color and happiness. I enjoy doing markets locally such as Milk Mart Orlando and during Collective Body events when I am able to organize them with my co-partner. Eventually I would love to have my own storefront with my husband and be able to focus on my brand on a more larger scale, but sometimes the quiet and slow paced balance of a side hustle is nice.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy is being yourself. People will support you the most when you are true and confident in who you are and what you produce. The best work I ever created was when I stopped comparing myself to others and took creative control of what I wanted or what I would buy if I was the consumer. Originality is what takes you places in any industry, especially the creatives ones.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Finding your niche and creative style is key to building your reputation. Creating original work and playing with color palettes, shapes, characters, etc is what creates your brand and makes you stand out. That is what helped me find what style I liked drawing in, the colors I use, and how I wanted to represent myself through social media.
