We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bianca Mehnert a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Bianca thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I hope my legacy will be noted as a genuine journey of documenting life and all of its quintessential moments. Capturing important moment’s in someone’s life is truly rewarding. Way beyond a financial reward, it’s soul-gratifying to be included and entrusted to capture someone’s most intimate moments. A legacy of fierce tenacity that is sometimes necessary as an artist. Finding ways to function with MDD in an industry that overlooks the importance of self-care; this could include standing up for yourself, taking time for yourself, or even terminating business relationships because they no longer serve your company in its best interest. In times of doubt or feelings of hopelessness, having a purposeful career that you love no matter what is a powerful and uplifting tool. Hopefully my legacy will be comforting and a sign of hope for those that feel the odds in this industry are not in their favor or worth pursuing.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Biancam Studios, LLC. Is a mother-daughter owned and operated company providing professional creative services such as photography, graphic design, videography, and fine art. After receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Photography (Art Institute 2014) and working for other companies in the industry we made the decision to start our own company. The 9-5 job is not for everyone and not surprisingly, for most artists. It’s a slippery slope when you’ve been diagnosed with high-functioning MDD to overwork or neglect your mental health. Starting our company allowed more flexibility, creatively and personally. We look to work with clients that need high-end imagery for their brand, company, event, or personal moments. One of our specialties is providing safe and trusted photography services for categories such as boudoir, private events and family portraits. Most of our commercial clients come to us with a vision they would like to use for their social media platforms or advertising/marketing purposes. Our clients choose us for our professional experience as well as our original creations of bold/fine-art visuals. We love using color theory and creative direction to create series of images that evoke feelings of relatability or nostalgia similar to cinematic-movies. Our educational background in photography has helped set us apart by being able to provide a professional atmosphere, manage timely deadlines, being prepared for obstacles to arise and finding a fast cost-effective solution, and most of all, delivering exceptional imagery no matter how challenging the given environment may be. What we’re most proud of is bringing a person’s vision to life, exactly how they envisioned in their mind. It’s almost like reading someone’s mind, magical. We hope to one day provide these services on a global level and make a mark in the industry as Hispanic-Americans.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Leaving something beautiful behind. Finding a true love in the creation process and turning it into financial stability as well as making a positive impact is the company’s ultimate goal. Our mission is to provide exceptional imagery for those who need a reliable professional experience. This would help us leave behind a legacy for those who don’t think it’s possible to pursue their endeavors.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Being reliable while providing high-quality imagery. When you follow through for one client, that referral will have more merit when you put in the effort. It’s not just about taking great pictures, it’s about making a great experience. Another effective strategy is a prompt response. Potential clients usually have busy lives themselves so being able to reply to their questions in a timely manner goes a long way. This can also speed up the booking process and increase your chances of landing the gig if other professionals are too busy to respond in time.
