We were lucky to catch up with Bianca Harrison recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bianca , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The mission of Harrison’ Publications is to keep readers engaged and keep them coming back. As well as helping children to read and write, which can also help to increase their language, emotional, and cognitive skills. Through picture books the mission focuses on uplifting children of color, boosting their self-esteem, encouraging self-expression, and embracing their unique qualities. It’s very meaningful that I write stories that discuss topics that deal with real life situations from (speech therapy, social media, family divorce, financial literacy, challenges, etc.) catering to African American children. My mission is to create and release material that will be read and talked about for years to come.
Bianca , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a bestselling author that has penned several titles in various genres—including African American urban and women fiction, interracial romance, Christian fiction, and children’s books (as Janielle H.). Starting out writing short stories. I went on to pen my first novel in 2014, with “Someone To Call My Own.” In 2023, my debut children’s book, “James and Logan Special Mission,” exemplified my commitment to empowering young readers through storytelling. Now as a screenwriter, I am proud to see what the future holds in the film industry.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me. The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is captivating the reader’s attention. Crafting their minds to explore things other than where they are at that moment. Young readers are excited about the beautiful illustrations, so as an artist, I want to make sure my illustrator provides great artwork throughout the book. The reviews, messages, emails and tags on social media signifies that I’ve created great work and I truly appreciate every supporter.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to be consistent, where my mission is to release more books to reach more readers and make an impact. I’m proud of how far I’ve come in the literary world, but I still have more work to do. My books will be shared all over the world in bookstores, libraries, school systems, etc. In which my creative journey is fueled by commitment, strategy and pushing myself because I can do more.
I will keep going. Create, don’t wait!
