We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bianca Guirado a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Bianca , thanks for joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Although success is often regarded as a destination, in my eyes it is a journey-a journey that consists of loss and improvement, followed by a gain of knowledge and meaningful connections. As a child, my parents rooted the idea that passion is what drives all, and discipline is what drives passion. To a little girl, those words are merely nonsense, but it is when I grew older and began to understand truly what I wanted to do, when I finally understood the wisdom. The day I began my journey to hairstyling, was the day my loyalty to the craft commenced. From that day forward I promised to always show up and go passed the standards I had modeled for myself, presenting myself on the good days and on the bad, no matter the circumstances. Without the discipline I had planted within my path to my goal of happiness and stability, I would not have been able to endeavor through the balance of raising a young child at a young age while focusing on my career. I have a determination and consistency that allows me to wake up every morning feeling pleased and content to be able to present myself at my business and make someone’s day.
To me, the loyalty I have to my career that I have engraved throughout my life is what has allowed me to reach a level of stability and contentment that has only enriched my life with happiness and thrill. It is also a knowledge-seeking voyage that I am continuing to venture through, with the intent of learning more and more each day.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello, my name is Bianca Guirado and I am a mother, wife, hairstylist, and business owner. My journey began when I moved here to the United States from Mexico, at the age of nineteen. My rather youthful self was full of ambition and intention, wanting to put it into a craft I knew I would prosper in; hairstyling. Though due to my growing family I knew that I had to put a pause on my aspirations and put more focus on my familial passions. Those familial passions I had–I was unsure about, all I knew was that my family was stable and filled with bliss. However over the years, as my husband and I countinued to watch our daughter grow, I could not help but contemplate taking the leap into cosmetology school. I pondered for months and realized that my passion was stronger than my doubt, which influenced me to pursue the hairstyling proffesion, starting by joining an insitute that would provide me the expertise and certification for the career I was so zealous about.
Creating a fixed balance between my family and my education was a challenge that I had to learn to navigate. However, with the help of my husband and my warm daughter, I was able to strive through and make it happen.
Once I graduated from cosmetology school, I immediately started working at a blowdry bar that was close to my home. I loved it. I loved the creativity that I was able to pursue, as well as the many things I learned from amazing stylists everyday. I spent years here and eventually even became a manager– something that was quite new to me but felt great. After a couple of years I began working for another blowdry bar, working with color, and cut, while building a wonderful clientele. Then in 2019 I made the committed decision to open my own studio, allowing me to be my own boss and leader. Since then I have been able to provide the services I enjoy doing the most to my dream clientele and have been able to indulge in my own creativity. My studio is a token that represents what can happen when you put everything you have got within you into your passion. It is a place where I can connect with the most special people and can do what makes me the happiest. It is my happy place.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I believe the most effective strategy that has helped me grow my clientele is my availability. I find that having a flexible schedule allows me to accommodate numerous schedules, making it easier for new clients to book appointments. Having a flexible schedule also aids me in building trust and loyalty with my clients as they know they are able to rely on me and my availability for their needs. I also believe that investing in education, whether attending seminars or learning from others has also helped me grow my clientele. It keeps me up to date on popular styles, giving me the ability to provide any and all hair care desires.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
To keep in touch with my clients I have created an efficient system that works best for me and my clients as well. I send personalized messages to confirm appointments, as well as personalized follow-up messages after said appointments, keeping me and my clients connected. Communication is a major factor within my career, aiding me in understanding what exactly my clients are looking for and what they think is best for their hair. Additionally, I also maintain an active presence on social media, in effort to project to clients what I am capable of and what I have to offer. Keeping my clients informed as well as in contact in turn, fosters loyalty and trust.
