We recently connected with Bianca Figueiredo and have shared our conversation below.
Bianca , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I like to have control over what content I create and having more direct connection with the individuals in my community. I feel that doing this myself, allows me to have more creative freedom, and for it to be more authentic. I specifically make content to help others embrace and love their natural hair. I also help make content for brands to use for their own marketing purposes.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I grew up hating my naturally curly hair and never learned how to take care of it or embrace it. As a mixed race, African & Mexican American woman, it was sometimes frowned upon to wear out your natural hair. It was always considered “more beautiful” to press, blow dry or straighten our hair. Doing so, I caused years of heat damage to my hair and it ruined my curls. It wasn’t until 2020 during Covid and the pandemic that I really started my healthy hair journey. With that, I started an Instagram account to share my journey and connect with others in the curly/ natural hair community. My followers and platform began to grow and I was able to connect with others who also were learning how to take care of their natural hair. I started posting using certain brands’ products and sharing tips and tutorials. With that, brands started to reach out to me and wanted to gift me hair products through PR. That quickly turned into me establishing collaborations and partnerships by getting paid to promote products through content such as IG Reels and photo posts. It has been a blessing to be able to help inspire others to love their natural hair but also make a side income doing so, to help support my family. I have now shifted into creating UGC (user-generated content) for brands for them to have advertising rights and use for their own marketing purposes. I love having creative freedom to share product reviews, curly hair styling tips and hairstyle tutorials. I love being able to create content, be recognized by big time brands and be compensated for my hard work.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect is being able to connect with other woman who also struggle to embrace their natural hair and helping them feel inspired and encouraging them to love their hair and authentic beauty. The curly hair and natural hair community is very uplifting and supportive of one another.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I currently have a career in social work, but my future/ long term goal is to eventually be able to do content creation full time and make a full earning to support my family. I love the creative process of sharing curly hair content and enjoy the more free time that being a full content creator could provide.
