We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bianca Coletti a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Bianca thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happy a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I am extremely happy as an artist, designer & visionary! I have always chosen my own authentic, creative & spiritual path. My parents, both artists and architects had a big influence on my childhood. Since I was young I was encouraged to study art and fashion. As I choose this path, everything is un-predictable! I never really think if I had a regular job or hours because part of my success was always pushing forward! I am thankful to have my own hours and responsibilities- managing a company, factory, employees, orders, clients, social media & press & being the designer of my own label and brand since 1997.
Bianca , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into fashion since I was a young girl as my parents were fashion & art icons in their times I knew I wanted to study fashion design and merchandising. Right out of college I found myself with a big need- a bikini that fit me right! And that’s how I started my brand. The whole idea was to make separates and reversibles.
Remember this is 25 years ago! So there was a need & niche to buy separate pieces to fit your body correctly. Also part of the longevity of the brand has been to stick to my trend forecast instinct but still remaining authentic to my design aesthetic and simple silhouettes.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an entrepreneur and artist is the freedom to design my life just as I do “collections” Every season is a new inspiration and story. This keeps the wheel rolling for me- my mind is constantly full of ideas. Always, instilling a deep appreciation of life, nature and gratitude into everything I do or accomplish!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes there was a firm goal: to make a woman feel confident and sexy, at the same time being comfortable and functional. As the bathing suit brand grew, so did the audience and with that came to design various collections in one season, for different fits & body types. Also we service hotels and restaurants for pool/ staff uniforms.
