We recently connected with Bianca Chavez and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Bianca thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
I am most definitely happy as a business owner. Of course, they are some good days and bad days but as a business owner, an entrepreneur, you have to keep going. I have had a thought or two if having a regular 9-5 job with a stable schedule and guaranteed income would be a smarter way of living but then I remember the freedom I have. The freedom to make my own schedule and be there for my family when things come up, or just to be able to go on vacations when I wanted. Like any entrepreneur/business owner, on our bad days or sick days the regular job becomes a thought, you know I don’t have sick pay for when I’m not able to work but I don’t let my bad days outweigh the good because when it’s good it’s sooo good. The one main thing I always think of is having the opportunity to be my own boss and that alone is a true blessing. I don’t have to answer to no one or ask anyone for days off or to leave early. I am able to pursue my dreams and do something I love to do everyday! Not to mention all the beautiful people I get to meet, my clients, who have turned into friends… even family! I am extremely grateful and happy with my career choice.
Bianca, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Bianca but I go by Bee. I am the founder/owner of Bee’Tique Beauty, formally known as Bee’Lashed Studio.
I started in the beauty industry about 4 years ago & I knew straight out of high school I would be in this industry someway somehow. I enrolled in a cosmetology school for my lash license in Mar 2018 and on my very first day I was seriously ready to quit. It was an experience I was not familiar with or expecting but I knew I had to push and finish even if it wasn’t for me. Fast forward to today and I am so in love with what I do. I am now a licensed lash artist & a licensed esthetician. From just offering lash extensions, I have now grown and am also offering spray tans, body contouring, waxing and facials. Aiming to be a one stop shop. My ultimate goal is to help my gals enhance their natural beauty and confidence all while educating them on how to maintain themselves.
I got in this industry because I love being able to help my clients with feeling beautiful. I am never not learning and am always finding new things to offer to enhance my babes so I’m always up to date with the proper knowledge for my clients.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
Before I started my business full time, I did have a regular M-F job. I even worked a M-F while going to school for my initial license. I worked from 7am-3pm then went to school from 4pm -8pm to get my license. I did this for about 3 months. Once I completed school, I was able to take clients from that 4pm-8pm time frame. That was how I was able to fund my business and continue to grow it to what it is. I always remembered missing out on things but I know I had to do a temporary sacrifice for my long term goal which was starting a full time business and having the ability to make my schedule. I made sure to push myself to finish and when I was finally done it was such a relief as well as a blessing but I knew the learning wasn’t over. Thankfully, 3 months out of school I was blessed with a paid apprenticeship from a local well known license lash artist. Under her wing, I was able to not only pick my speed up but I also improved my skills and learn different techniques. I will forever be grateful for that opportunity.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building my audience on social media was and still has always been a struggle for me. To be quiet honest, social media is like a 2nd job. You have to constantly promote yourself, your work, your products and what you represent. It took a lot for me to get to where I am today. Now I am no where near my final goal but I am sure further then where I started. I can definitely say staying active and networking with fellow people in the beauty industry definitely will boost your audience. One thing to understand is no one is your enemy, or let me rephrase that, no one is your competition. It is always you against yourself. Figuring out how to better yourself and grow within yourself. Believe it or not, word of mouth is also a good strategy on building your audience on social media. The best compliment I could ever receive is a referral from a client. Your clients will always be your biggest promoters.
