We recently connected with Bianca M Romero and have shared our conversation below.
Bianca, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I have two. one is the “spread love stop asian hate” mural thats in lower east side. being korean and spanish and growing up in east village originally I felt very affected by the rise in hate crimes during the pandemic and it reminded me there that wasnt any representation for the aapi community for me growing up so I sought out to paint a mural and take up space (literally and figuratively” for the asian community. I partnered with the NYC city departments, and even had an unveiling event with the NYC mayor and first lady. that mural is now one of the biggest in manhattan, and will remain a permanent fixture.
the other really meaningful project to me was my partnership with makers mark. I created 11 murals that were all over nyc celebrating the resilience of new york city during the pandemic. we also released a limited edition makers mark bottle with my artwork on it. it was my largest project and partnership to date

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Bianca is a New York City-based contemporary mixed media artist, muralist, and Creative Director. She’s known for her bold and colorful murals and paintings made of hand-cut collaged street posters layered with spray paint, and acrylic.
Her work is inspired by human emotion, identity, women’s empowerment, and New York City. Bianca uses mixed media collage as a visual interpretation for exploring personal identity and the collective pieces that make us unique. She’s heavily influenced by New York City’s vibrant energy, urban textures & street art, and diversity. Romero’s unique collaged art style is a direct reflection and embodiment of her mixed multi-cultural background South Korean and Spanish and growing up in New York City. As a first-generation American, the clash of cultures significantly impacted her perspectives, and collage art has helped her navigate her mixed identity, allowing her the creative outlet to explore the multifaceted human experience through her artwork.
Bianca has partnered with major brands including her recent NYC city-wide collaboration with Maker’s Mark featuring 11 custom billboards and limited-edition Maker’s Mark Bottles, as well as a major mural collaboration with the city of NY Mayor’s Office for her ‘Stop Asian Hate’ Mural Initiative, and more.
She’s also done artwork for Oakley, William Vale Hotel, SOHO House, Coach, and much more. Her paintings have exhibited in galleries in NYC, Atlanta, Miami and beyond. With a background in brand marketing and event production, and experience working at Experiential Creative Agencies for major brands, Bianca strives to merge her agency experience with her creative side and artistic side

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
in art school artists should be taught about the business side of art. how to sell, how to brand yourself, how to work with galleries, grant writing, etc.
for those who dont go to art school, there should be places where artists and creatives can learn about that side of things.
there should also be more places where people who like art can learn about curation, management, and buying. a lot of people are intrigued by art to own, or get involved in some way but feel intimidated and dont even understand the value of art, or the value of investing in an artist.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
As a mixed race first generation american, and a woman, I feel very passionate and compelled to take up space, create representation in my own way, and share what the experience and my voice is
