We recently connected with Bianca Bee and have shared our conversation below.
Bianca, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success to me is about navigating the journey, growing through challenges, and learning how to pivot. Moving to Los Angeles at 17, I faced rejection, but it taught me resilience and how to push through setbacks. Starting my own talk show at 19 came with its own obstacles, but it helped me learn business, branding, and consistency.
Writing and self-publishing my books taught me perseverance, patience, and staying true to my voice, even in isolation. Now, with BFF Cosmetics, I’m facing new challenges in a competitive industry, but each one teaches me something valuable.
Overall, success is built on resilience, learning from struggles, and staying committed to your goals. Every challenge has been a lesson, making the journey worthwhile.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My journey began at 17 when I moved from Detroit to Los Angeles with a single goal: to pursue my passion for filmmaking. While studying at film school, I gained hands-on experience working with major networks and brands like The Oprah Winfrey Network, TMZ, VH1, E! News, and The Steve Harvey Show. These experiences laid the foundation for my next big leap to New York City, where I became a Booking Producer for shows like The Mel Robbins Show, Nick Cannon’s Daytime Talk Show, and Sports & Weather.
At 19, I felt compelled to create something of my own, so I launched The Bianca Bee Show. This platform was designed to highlight young entrepreneurs and emerging talent in the media industry. Interviewing celebrities, public figures, and entrepreneurs gave me invaluable insight into the power of storytelling and how it can inspire and connect people.
Writing has always been a way for me to connect with others, so I self-published three books: The 20’s Chronicles, a personal reflection on navigating adulthood; Plot. Plan & Slay., a guide to taking control of your life; and Resting Bee Face, which empowers those who feel misunderstood in an industry that often misrepresents them.
While my roots are deeply embedded in film, my passion for beauty and self-expression led me to create BFF Cosmetics. The brand is about celebrating diversity and empowering women of all backgrounds to feel beautiful, confident, and unapologetic. Through BFF Cosmetics, I aim to challenge the beauty standards often set by the industry and promote inclusivity.
Giving back to my community is something that drives me as a proud Detroit native. I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with top brands like Galore, Rolling Out, Ipsy, Fenty Beauty, and WhoSay, and I was honored to receive the “Young Entrepreneur Award” from the Small Marketing Business Association.
Through every project and venture, my mission remains the same: to inspire others to live boldly, authentically, and fearlessly. The journey may not always be linear, but I’m grateful for every step and excited about what lies ahead. What sets me apart is my commitment to empowering others—whether it’s through my media platforms, nonprofit, books, or cosmetics brand—and using my voice and platforms to create positive change.
Have you ever had to pivot?
There have been countless times in my career when I’ve had to pivot, especially in the unpredictable world of film and television. Freelance work is a major part of the industry, and shows are never guaranteed, which is just the nature of the business. One of the most pivotal moments in my journey came when I had an opportunity to work on a talk show in New York City. I packed up my life and moved across the country in less than a month.
When I arrived, the environment was much different from LA—there was a heavier workload, and the energy was intense. Unfortunately, the show was canceled, and I found myself needing to pivot again. I returned to LA, thinking my time in New York was over, only to receive another opportunity to work on another show. To my surprise, that show was also canceled.
It was a tough blow to experience the same outcome twice, but those setbacks were key to my growth. They forced me to rethink my approach to life and career, and ultimately, they accelerated my development. I learned to reassess the value of opportunities, and more importantly, to understand my worth. I also learned what I’m willing to tolerate and what I’m not.
Through this process, I realized the importance of learning how to pivot and even stepping outside of my industry when I needed a break. While I love what I do and always return to it, these moments taught me the value of resilience and self-reflection. Ultimately, these experiences shaped how I approach opportunities and navigate my career today.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building my social media audience has been about consistency, authenticity, and connecting with my community. When I launched The Bianca Bee Show at 19, I used it to showcase young entrepreneurs and emerging talent, marking my first step into building an online presence. Over time, I expanded my content to include my career journey, my books, and BFF Cosmetics, a beauty brand focused on empowering women.
For those just starting, my advice is to stay authentic and true to your mission. Share your real story, struggles, and victories. Consistency is key—engage with your audience regularly and provide value. Also, be open to evolving as social media trends shift. Building an engaged following takes time, but with commitment and authenticity, the results will follow.
